I have some new speakers and new amp I bought recently.
When I play back its very crackly, like as if it was an old vinyl record.
How do I determine if this is the speakers or the amp that is at fault ?

Sam

Actually I think its something to do with my computer.
If I move the scroll wheel really quickly it gets much worse.

Sam

Could it be my computer being too slow to decode mp3s properly ?

You got a creative soundcard and/or vista?

Sam

I have vista and sigmatell and I have found some threads on it.

Its perfect from my ipod, I just tried it (apart from being sh*t cos its using the jack) - but no crackle.

Sam

It seems only with my logitech wireless music system.... hmmm...

Try lowering the volume of your output in Windows volume control and upping the volume on the speakers.

Eggtastico

you have a wireless mouse?

Cypher

or cordless telephone, or wifi, or wireless TV extender......

They all work on 2.4Ghz.  Presuming that this speaker set follows the trend.

are you taking the piss ?

Sam

No.
Its a wireless music broadcaster. Its the same if I use the jack from my headphone out.
But not if I use the inbuilt speakers (its a laptop).

Seems an issue on vista.

knighty

my wirless mouse interfeers with my (wired) speakers sometimes... :o

edit: do you hear it if you use headphones ?

No, thats a sensible suggestion. It moves the gain from the line output of the soundcard to the potentiometer of the amplifier, which should do the work and help clean up the signal.

Sam

Its not a sensible suggestion because I didnt ask about hiss. I asked about a crackle that comes on and off and I described it like the cracke you get on vinyl.

White Giant

Sorry for trying how about this?
