Bought for Ã,£80 at ebuyer last july, run as cpu in my main pc for about 6 months at stock, errrr.. Id like Ã,£50 I suppose.
Doesnt the lockability of these depend on the chipset rather than the cpu? Its not been tampered with in any way anyhow.

Eagle

Sorry, see last post again. :)

Thanks anyways.

Ah but, the reason for that is that the 3200 is a "performance rating", the 3200 runs at a faster fsb than the 166 fsb Xp3000, so it gets a higher differential in performance terms (due to being able to talk to the memory faster) than the difference purely due to the Ghz speed.;) I think

Eagle

Ok, let me sleep on it. :)

Not a worth while upgrade IMO for less than 100MHz and the small gain in memory bandwidth.

The chip will be locked if bought last July.

Quote from: Eagleand 2x 1Gb RAM (Ive heard two (match paired) will run better than three.

Two does run faster than three, although if you end up using more than the 2GB of memory (highly unlikely this next year) then three runs faster, although you can always add one. The thing isnt being matched, its the chipset accesses one Dimm and then the other allowing faster data transfer. TBH as Crucial says there is no such thing as matched ram.

If your motherboard can take it I would suggest a mild overclock rather than a slightly faster CPU.

brummie

Well i notice no difference in actuall speed of things with 2 or 3 dims in. :dunno:

More memory is always more beneficial than faster memory.
2GB is an optimum these days, and with Vista coming...

madmax

id be interested in the barton 3200+ btw,
not got a suitable chip for my growing pile of spares atm

Ceathreamhnan

Well, yeah its still here :)

Eagle

Yeah, Ill pass, btw. Sorry for the delay getting back to you.

Thanks for the offer though. :)

Ceathreamhnan

I thought you had declined anyway, in fact. Max, if you want it PM me.

Ceathreamhnan

Madmax cant use the XP3200, so if anyone else is interested, make your self known :D
