bah....

finally got new system going.... i5 2500k, 16gig ram 256gig ssd....


I didn't expect much difference from the cpu or ram upgrade (previous was c2d @ 4.4gig and 8gig ram)

but thought the SSD would be a real kick in the pants.... but it's not much different to my old raid setup


it makes a small difference sometimes.... but it doesn't really 'fee' any faster....


office 2003 installed faster.... but it only used to take 30seconds anyway... so what difference does a few seconds make



personally... I blame it all on Clocked0ne for telling me how great his SSD is

It seems only fair to go, RAID HDD -> RAID SSD 

Post up an ATTO benchmark & lets see how the SSD is running.
SSD made a huge difference to me & still does.
Installed Win 7 in less than 8 mins  really sold me on it.

it is fast....

it's just not that much faster than my old raid....

old raid was 5 x 80gig seagate barracuda drives... and I picked them because they were quiet not fast....


I can notice the difference.... but only just.... and only if I look for it....

I'm guessing the bottle neck is something else... ssd/cpu/ram are plenty fast as it is.... maybe the memory bandwidth between them all is what's holding it up now ?

Read looks good but write looks poor.
This is my Vertex 2 , it is faster now because i have changed to AHIC mode.



Note this is over 1 year old now & newer SSD'd are far faster.

Write speeds are slower on the SSD you have, Installing isn't going to be much faster, its actually loading things that will feel faster because of the 0ms access time, even your 5x RAID won't match that. Windows and games is where you really should notice the difference, although it probably won't be as noticeable after coming from 5x RAID 0 HDDs, but isn't it much easier plugging in one SSD? 

Also forget ATTO and download AS SSD:

Then post the bench from that, it's much easier to see if the SSD is performing as it should with that.

Is your BIOS in RAID or AHCI mode? It needs to be in one of the two, if you've left it in IDE like a numtpy it would run slower, which could be why your speed seems to cap at 300Mb/s. Compare with mine:



Also, I might have been wrong about RAID being slower, it should be very fast on the right chipset, the only downside is you lose TRIM support, which isn't too bad if your SSD garbage collects well.

where do you enable AHCI mode?

In ze BIOS

you have to install the driver for it before you install it (or windows won't boot)

the driver normally installs with windows, but only if you have AHCI enabled when you install windows for the first time...

install the driver, then enable it in the bios after :-)

scroll down a little bit and there's a link to a "fix this" thing.... which will install the driver etc.. for you :-)
(it's the microsoft site so safe to use)

Some things not right with my laptop, it seems fine most of the time, but doing the backup of my iphone before installing its new OS brought my computer to a halt, to the point where everything froze for a few minutes, just run the speed test and I'm getting 600k/s on my 4k writes... I'm getting about the same on my SSD and my HDD (my laptop has 2 HDs)

AHCI is enabled..

Any idea?

weird... can you post up some benchmarks so we can see how the rest is preforming ?

and do you know which ssd is in it ?
