I prefer the old 480, to me the 1080 puts a opaque with a hint of red filter on the image,

I wouldnt worry privateer.

Sky doesnt transmit images in 1080p so the site is *at best* using a 1080i source and deinterlacing it.  Those images have been passed through some processing as well.  Theres visible edge sharpening and auto colour/contrast effects on them which is why they look a bit sh*tty.  The edges have a false white/double image effect which only comes from edge sharpening algorithms and wont be in a HD source.

At a guess the websites author doesnt know what 1080p actually is and has got someone to grab the feed off the component cables coming out of a processing box.  The HD images hes showing are very processed (badly processed) and there are no 1080p transmission formats around so he cant be pulling it from sky (or any other tv stream).

At that scale and with all the sharpening Id agree the dvd source looks better but if he turned off the processing and the pics were on a 40" screen the HD would be much better

cant wait for the actual hd disc series to come out, rumour of it being hd dvd only but I can see it coming out on both formats for maximum profit unless MS and Co has slipped lucas a few bucks.

Yes they said they got no plans to bring it out on these formats but since they said this with dvd then you had the special editions and you have had the 1080i source transmitted in US and Sky (which I am sure is not even quite 1080 anyway)
But 1080p discs with yet more tweaks to them (sound mainly) would be brilliant
singles and then a big box set would sell

HD or BluRay, BluRay or HD.  Wish theyd make up their bloody minds...

Never seen Star Wars despite being a huge Sci-Fi fan, a bloke at work has given me 4,5,6 to watch over Chirstmas.

TBH Im not really looking forward to it, seems like itll be a Buck Rogers type series.

Thats like saying youve never tried pizza but you love italian food :)

your in for a f**king suprise..
dont be suprised if you watch them at least twice

As for the pics, they would have been upscaled somwhere along the line.

I belive George Lucas own star wars outright & knowing him, If it was his release for HD, then it would at least have some rework somwhere along the line... any excuse to use ILM studio & squeeze out another anniversery edition.

Definitely not Buck Rodgers, although that was preferable to 1, 2 and 3. The science is a bit weak but the acting is excellent and the storylines pretty darn good.

Dont know what rumours you have seen but as Star Wars is distributed by Fox, that puts it as a Blu-ray exclusive.

Just remember Han shot first.

Theres another comparison here -
