The crimson short one is coming back

not sure how I feel about this, I consider the series peaked about series 4/5 and has been going downhill since with the 2009 specials actually unwatchable. They're saying the right things about the direction for this new series X, but only time will tell.

I agree with you totally. 4/5 and closing on 6 was the last and best of the true Red Dwarf series', the latter ones feel like cheap imitation and I seem to remember them giving all the same spiel about those series saying how it would be going back to the true feel of the earlier episodes.

If they can pull it off though, it could be a brilliant encore.

I didn't think the 2009 was THAT bad, but for a 'comeback' mini series I would have made sure the script was fresh and funny, it wasn't overly fresh or funny. I thought it was 'ok' though.

What is amazing is how Craig Charles doesn't appear to be ravaged by crack abuse, and Danny John Jules is peter pan.

It's good they are talking about shooting it in front of a live audience again, as I felt that was what BTE really missed.

Could potentially be good.

I think the main thing with stuff dragging on(especially US shows) is the writing team will run out of good ideas - with a bit of a gap and, presumably a few more people brought in to write it then it could be a good series.

The one off specials were a bit dire though.

for me the point where RD takes a real dive in quality is the point where Grant and Naylor fell out and split up. The Gestalt was greater than the sum of its parts. Since this new series will still only be written by Naylor, I fear it is doomed to mediocrity. I'd dearly love to be wrong though, a new good series of Red Dwarf would be awesome.

I would hope that this late in the game they rely a lot more on the cast's involvement and ideas too.
