Title: Stuck at linux for a bit longer this time.
Post by: soopahfly on August 16, 2006, 16:23:59 PM
And i think im getting the hang of it.

Ive got Wine installed, Crossover office, Rarlabs Rar package (although I have to use command line, cant get it to work through fileroller)
Automatix and a couple of other packages.

I quite like it, but its got a long way to go before its got the ease of use of windows, although...I suppose its good for total it n00bs because they can click all the popups they like and it wont kill the system.

All in all, I think I like it, other than firefox constantly crashing

Firefox should crash very rarely if youve got things set up properly.

If you really need MS Office and a bunch of crossover apps, use XP, its silly not to. I use native apps under Linux for my very modest WP and spreadsheet stuff, Abiword and Gnumeric to be specific.

I find it easier to use and configure than Windows, but its not always the better choice.

I use crossover purely for office.  Firefox crashes all the time, even after the latest upgrade.

Thats a FF problem, not Linux. Could be a borken profile. Ive had the same thing happen a long long time ago, both under XP and Linux--it aint platform specific. I could also be that for some reason that Firefox loads in the background as  you saved a session with it or something. Only thing that causes my FF to ever crash are crazy scripts or very badly embedded media.
