Title: Stuck/dead pixels
Post by: Clock'd 0Ne on May 16, 2008, 11:47:18 AM
Having just had a dead pixel develop on my replacement TFT Im rather annoyed and very disappointed :disappointed:

How is it a brand new screen can be fine for a week and then suddenly develop a stuck pixel?? Surely they should present themselves from the first time you turn it on? I dont even know if I can get the screen swapped out yet again, but I cant say I should have to keep doing this even if I can. Ive had one of those flickering rgb videos running for 30 mins to try and fix it and Ive tried massaging it all to no avail. On a £400 screen which I may want to sell on in a couple of years to fund a newer model I find it rather unnacceptable, nobody wants a screen with a dead pixel.

Is it a dead pixel or a stuck pixel? There is a bit of a difference and if memory serves there are a few programs that can try to cure stuck pixels. Very very occasionally you can massage them back to life by giving it a gentle rub with a soft cloth, but it doesnt work often.

Make and model?

Lesson #1:

Buy a Dell, 100% pixel guarantee.

It was a dell and he rang up for the replacement service which should have happened by now so he is probably sorted already now

I must admit Ive always used Acer because my last five flatscreens from them have never had a dead or stuck pixel in years of use. One unit developed a fault a few months after purchase and it was fixed by an engineer (fixed, I know, shock horror, not simply replaced).

However I must admit I didnt know Dell had a 100% pixel guarantee and that would definitely be enough to sway me to buy Dell in the future. Do any other companies share this policy?

Its the Dell 2408WFP - Ive already had them out to replace it once, now the replacement has two stuck pixels so this is why Im unsure where I stand. I guess Ill be ringing up again on Monday!

Just a quick update. Dell sent out a swap-over replacement again for the second time today. This new one seems flawless again, time will tell! Cant fault their excellent service though. You get what you pay for.

I tried all that crap for 30 minutes, and left the inbuilt lcd conditioner thing running for ages too. It didnt want to know.
