So Im sure those of you with HDTVs are like me and think you can "tweek" your TVs pictures settings to look right. Turns out I was wrong !
After a long running battle with a friend over the brightness (or lack there of) of the picture on my TV I decided to get a hold of the BBCHD calibration card and use it to setup my TV once and for all.

I do firstly need to confess that I have a 3ish+ years old 42" 720p Panasonic TV. My TV is so old that I can only specify picture settings for the entire TV, not per input. Therefore I have decided that since I primarily use my TV for either watching HD movies or playing on my XBox, Im going to ensure that the TV calibration is perfect for HDMI inputs; sod anything else.

Right so youll need the BBCHD test card. This is a 1080 resolution .m2ts file that contains the video and a stereo test. Youll only be interested in the video (probably).

Whilst thats downloading, read this blog post by an engineer (I think) at the BBC. It explains the best way to use the test card.

I found that I had my brightness about right but my contrast was too low. Additionally my colour was over saturated and sharpness was a little too high. Im now watching Saving Ryans Privates for the upteenth time but this time it honestly looks better than it ever has before :D

Did it make any difference ?
Im playing a little MW2 on the 360 atm and Im definitely finding it a little easier to see people in the distance since running the test card :o
