damn, my NasLite box, the switch it was plugged into and my little maxtor nas box all died on the same day :(

Im presuming it was a power surge... or something like that :(

looks like its time to upgrade the network storage then !

Sorry to hear of your loss!

Not that it helps now, but Im running belkin surge protection on all my equipment, as you can pick them up for next to nothing and if anything does die it has a ridiculous warranty (Like £30k or similar) and if you have frequent power outages or fluctuations you should get a UPS really.

Im going to invest in a UPS. Ive had a few outages since moving in here and I also like the fact they double as surge protectors too.

White Giant

I got a UPS a couple of years ago, was great. Then I upgraded and it wont even keep my machine on for a second. :(

Keeps the monitor on for ages though.

Mongoose

I picked up a monster UPS for nothing from a company which wasnt using it. Damn thing weighs a ton, but it keeps my whole desk going for about 20 minutes.

A few times last year the power went out for ~10 mins and the only reason I noticed at all was the UPS beeping and my housemates yelling about how much work theyd just lost.

Ebuyer has a cheapy UPS (2min full load) going for about £20.

Ive read many bad things about cheapie UPS systems on other forums, from potential fire hazards to blown PSUs and such. UPSs seem to be another of those products where cheap and reliable rarely can coexist. Just IMO.

If your going to invest in a UPS either buy an APC or MGE.  Dont mess about.
