Haven't had one of these in a while, so I came up with some rules that should help keep the thread moving:
Rules:
1. Whoever answers correctly gets to post the next frame.
2. A frame must be posted/deduced/guessed correctly within five days of posting, otherwise a new frame must be posted by whomever got the last correct answer.
3. No more than one frame at a time. If you post a difficult one, and no-one answers it after a day, you are permitted to post certain non-specific clues, such as the year of the film's release, or whether or not it received/was nominated for any awards etc. :P
3a. ? ? ? ? ?
4. Profit! Super secret prize @ 50 pages!
Here you go, should be an easy one:

Sucker Punch?
Correct (Damnit), it's the scene where Baby-doll deep-throats a dragon ;), to retrieve the two crystals. :P
I can't really remember the plot of that movie, but the camera effect / costume gave it away. :P
I'll think of one to post now.

Indeed!
Aww man, Google (damnit, even has drag & drop between tabs) knew that one. :-\
Try not using stock photos that are already on the web (that one was already on IMDB for example), but ones you've made yourself from your own collection, from an unusual scene.
Until 'Google Brain' comes out of course, and ruins all quizzes everywhere. :tinhat:

The Secretary was rather an easy one, the 2nd came to mind, i sort of knew Garden State but i kept thinking about a Dr. Who T Shirt i saw today for sale. :D
I've not used the google search when looking at these pics. Where's the fun if you do?

Does not just read image headers you know. While I have not used it to guess the images here so far I have after the fact to see if google would work - yes.
We have tried screenshots from movies being played etc at work.
Google pics them up.
It reads the headers etc but it also reviews the image itself and on that it is very good. It has not failed me yet even with video images as long as they are decent/semi decent quality.
Okay Nexus, your go. You have until the 26th before you forfeit your turn.
IMO if you pick an unusual, unique enough scene/shot (use PNG) Google won't work on it, at least from my testing. :)

Do you feel the screen cap looks like a younger Dennis Quaid as well? :P
I first thought the image pre-dated Enemy Mine, but he had long hair in that movie also, lets hope your right and you can have a turn. :muttley:
He is REALLY young in that movie. (Yep it is Enemy Mine, I thought to give an easy one. I can easily do harder from my movie collection :) )
It just that he was on the planet with Zamies for a long time and "died" so pretty rough looking at that point.
For the time the graphics (well, well done modals and art) were not bad and the scene/set design was pretty well done for the time.
Yep, I only glanced at it quickly and though it looked a bit like Sam Rockwell, then as Bacon pointed out it's clearly an older film. I've never seen Enemy Mine or a number of these other films so far, it's good that its a challenge.
I wasn't sure if it was Enemy Mine, as I thought it looked older/more dodgy than Enemy Mine.
I'll see what I have in my film collection tonight and take a screen grab, rather than find a screenshot. Not sure if it'll be an obscure film, but will make whatever screengrab obscure...

Its a horror film but more comedy i'd say than horror.

2 days old, got to post a clue!
Yeah, I was going to post last night, but ended up watching sherlock holmes :D
A clue is in the file name.
Another clue is that this is a sequel, and follows the format of pirates of the Caribbean, the first film was an indie film, with #2 ending fairly abruptly leading into #3...
I want to say Slither, but it's not that either...
Gah, I'm going to kick myself when I find out, I'm sure I've seen it.
Nope, not slither. Lower budget than slither too, much lower.
Uwe Boll?
Sure I've seen that before, is it Feast?
I'll let you have that, it's Feast II to be more specific ;)
Ah, I've only seen the first one too. I didn't even know that it had a sequel, never mind a third. :)

Damnit, it wasn't supposed to be that easy! Blah. :P I even took this one too (http://img849.imageshack.us/img849/6766/fictionframegrab2.png) in case it ran long. ;D
If you can't post a new one, send me a PM with the title, and I'll do it for you and forfeit my next turn. :P
Thats probably the only movie i have seen her in, so it was quite obvious! :worried:
True, pretty easy that one.
Hehehe its mainly becuase I'd only watched Paul a few days before so remembered that scene ;D
And I'm not a n00bie :P I've been a lurker for years but never needed to post ;D

Yep thats right :D
I'll try a harder one next time :P
Nexus, 3,2,1... make post go now!
Two more days to post one before you forfeit your turn, Nexus. :)
Hope nobody minds... but no one has posted in ages and I like this thread... ;D

Let's see how easy/hard you fellows find this:

Haven't seen it in years as good a film and book as it is. I just saw the picture and had a mental image of the sea snake attacking someones diving helmet and giving them a fright. It's obviously ingrained itself somewhere into my subconscious. ;D

This will be an easy one for anyone that has seen the film I think

I first thought The Island for a second then but I actually was watching this one packing before going Queenstown so I know its the Crazies.
Tis indeed, fire up another!
Also, I'll be tallying up scores if/when this thread hits 50 pages. The winner (the most correct guesses) will receive... something. Not saying exactly what the prize is yet :muttley:,
only that it will be worth more than the average packet of crisps... :P

If I have seen something visually and not to obscure I know what it is. I did not know the movie name and had to google the plot. Found the youtube video trailer.
Crap use bar for crap purposes though, It does not work for words and numbers otherwise I would have been awesome at school :(
Yup, you got it. :o
Also it wasn't 'gay' (a childish pejorative to use anyhow), it was awesome, probably one of the best British films in years. :)

No no googling other then to find the name. I know the movie, I remember the day seeing that one evening and what I was doing that day - think it was a project or homework when I was doing it.
I can remember exactly how the street and my house looked when I left. I even remember which are the cracked tiles outside the corner shop.
I remember the patterns of 3 of the snowboards from the other week (rental ones).
I remember just about all theme tunes from 80's kid shows. I watch movies and old TV shows in quite a wide variation as even months or years later I can remember much of what I am already seeing.
I can think of a time and it is literally like watching a video in my head. It is pretty useless thing though. The people who can remember this stuff but apply it to dates or the people who can remember what they read have a useful skill.
It all similar stuff but I have the crap version, well I suppose it is good for games like this - Puzzles are a peace of piss too mind you - once you know the pastern or method that is quite visual.
I know exactly what still to take for my next movie!

Fingers crossed that this is a tough one and the image quality isn't too bad...
Green tinge to it is throwing me a little..
Spaceship - Sci fi movie. Halo has those doors funny enough on ships but it is not that. To green for any of the aliens movies unless they from Alien Resurrection and too green for event horizon.
Could be a klingon bird of prey and maybe either the Journey home or undiscovered country and if not then I was think the Klendatho? ship and movie would be Wing Commander.
It's a set of stairs I think. Is it from one of the Matrix films? I'm guessing the third one if it is.
Oh yeah, bit blurry hey. Could be stairs.
If it was stairs I would think it may be batman begins? But really should be yellow. If it stairs and smoke at the bottom then I am not sure :/
Could be Leon.

I'm back at home later tonight so if the image is too blurry I'll see if I can find another video of it on youtube that is in HD and get a better screenshot.
Inception?
I think it has a fuz and tinge to it not part of the movie so not reflecting what it actually is in the movie. There are a few movies in my head but I do not remember any of their steps that green, Matrix for example.

Hint:
Film was made/released in the early 80's
Here's another hint then:
"Wrong again!"
Sorry but I'm giving up on this one! I have absolutely no clue what its from!
You win!
I'll see if I can get a more obvious screenshot later tonight...
There are over 100 Movies with rugby any form of reference to rugby. Clearly not related to rugby so have no idea. Only other movie I can think of is went up a hill came down a mountain but thats 90's.
If this is still obscure I've already got a screenshot that should be obvious to people who might not have even seen the movie.

(Not from the film, but you get my meaning hopefully!)
Hello, is there anybody out there?
I think we're all thoroughly stumped. I was so sure it had to be Threads. :-\
I have no idea now. :dunno:
(The above post was a clue)
If it's not obvious enough, i'll post another screenshot later, which should hopefully be a giveaway. Failing that I'll choose another film.
Vampire Hunter.
Door chain makes sense now but do not remember the other scenes.
Nope ><
Here's another clue in lieu of a screenshot, the film was released/made in 1982
(http://www.zpyder.co.uk/forums/hammers.jpg)
Pink Floyd The Wall
Wall makes sense. Rugby posts do not and chain do not. IF it is this, BAD movie, can see why no one would get it.
Correct.
It's not a bad movie though :P
Rugby posts were there as it's a recurring theme/scene throughout the film, with the chains also being a strong image from near the start of the film.
The walking hammers are iconic but the others, I don't think anyone could have guessed without having seen it (I've never seen it). At least you found a challenging one ;D

The film switches so much and varies so much when you post obscure scenes from it with basically no people in any of them too - VERY Hard. Almost impossible, I think it easy to do and no one ever get any movies people post.
Well at least it made it challenging rather than it being guessed within an hour of being put up. It's not like I didn't try and post regular clues ;)
Hehe that was nice and challenging ;D
Post another one quickity quick ;D
I know it is good to have a challenge. I like it. But very easy to make them almost impossible every time. Been busy over weekend and had new PC to build so will grab a screenshot from one of my movies asap.

Sherlock Holmes?
Hmm...it looks like a newish/recent film...trying to decide if its a period thing or if it's set in more modern times but the scene is in a stately home...
If its not sherlock i want to say pirates of the Caribbean 4 but i know its the wrong time period...

Problem with some of the modern movies is while Sherlock homes is awesome and I am looking forward to the next one, other movies following suit in its style are really ignoring history quite a bit - Take the three musketeers for example which looks Dumb in that regard. Sherlock and Pirates for example at least kept the silly incorrect time period stuff to a minimum.
It is none of those.

The Pirates films all destroyed any relevance they had to actual history in every way and were no better or worse in that regard than the Three Musketeers. And rightly so, they are fantasy films, not historical docu-dramas. It would be like criticising the Lord of the Rings for being historically inaccurate.

Do not get me wrong, they are fantasy movies set around those times- True. And fun rides to watch and not take seriously. But my point was - what we have had currently in this new old style movies has been just about right. Sherlock has those elements that do not fit the period but nice movie and Pirates was OTT fun. Things like the Musketeers and some of the others coming are stepping over that line though and being a bit to much.
@knighty - No mate. Actually is a scene in that movie that looks very similar, I know which bit your thinking about actually lol.
I wondered about Kings Speech, but not being good at history and not seeing the film, I thought the gramophone would have been the wrong time period ><
Clue: He walks in the room from being away. People are surprised.

I think this thread is done?
Dorian Gray
It's not done. Just keep regular clues coming till someone gets it tbh.
Something still seems to be up with the forums for me though. I am finding when I click "show unread posts since last visit" it's not showing them all. Quite often on the main forum page there are icons showing new posts/threads in, say, photography, but the "new posts since last visit" is empty. I go to photography, and lo and behold, there are new posts.
I was totally unaware that you'd posted that second image for instance :dunno: :o

I was going to say Dorian Gray but i thought i'd let others have a chance. :muttley:

Check your browser's cookie/cache settings are updating properly. Chrome and IE are both crap for updating cache.

I stick my head in, but I'm not much of a film buff to know the answers :(
Most of the films being used are films/genres very few people will be aware of. I know it's meant to be hard, but it's not the best of games if hardly anyone can join in...
we should have a quick fire round.... all arnie films etc.... can make the pictures hard because it's a limited selection of films ?

Just looked at the movies posted. Bar 2 most are films you should have really seen over the years. Any "Blockbuster" Movie you post here will be got in minutes, way to easy no matter what scene you post as they are too well known. I do dot see the fun in that.
I have really enjoyed the older movies, I been making it quite easy and posting the last few which are brand new.
what about instead of a full frame grab, just post part of it ?
something like a little bit og the sign from ghostbusters would be easily recognisable by everyone, but at the same time could be a lot of different things ?
(ok this isn;t a great example, just the first one I thought of)
right now, even when the film has been recognised and names I still have no-idea what it is.... and I watch a lot of films....

Way I see it 1 frame or part of the frame can be easily made too hard.
Better idea is that for every post of a new movie you have to post 3 or 4 frames from different parts of the movie. You can still be selective but it should give people more of a chance.
Quote from: neXus on December 12, 2011, 19:06:03 PMWay I see it 1 frame or part of the frame can be easily made too hard
my idea was you could post up easier pics, but with less in them
so when someone gets it everyone else goes "ophhh yeah i recognise that now"
plus it gives the film buffs an edge as you can post up something like an easily recognisable picture... and then it turns out the same thing was used in 2 films etc. etc. ?
Judge, Master of thread!
What is your rulling! :worried: :worried: :worried:
why not just make it so the screenshot must have at least one of the major actors in the frame.

I do not think that is any fun at all.
You would either know it right away or have an easy point of reference to go google if you wished.
nexus, what we're saying is, why don't we use clips that are hard to recognise, instead of films which no-one has ever hear of ?
To be honest, out of all of the films posted, I know 8 (including the one I posted).
I'm from the 90's, so older films are a bit lost on me, unless I have a real interest in them.
I think you're missing the point of the game Nexus, it's not 'lets post the most obscure screen shot so no one but me knows it, and I'll just have to post another one until someone does', it's meant to be hard, yes - but not impossible! No wonder why nobody's really interested in it any more, because there's no way they can contribute.

Done quizzes of just this. If it is a known movie that is still pretty easy. If I posted 8 Movies, Recent and box office and did that when I get home, pretty much everyone will know them even like that.
That is just what I was trying to point out, Also you would have to take a screen of the movie you have and then crop etc and take more time to do.
well.... who;s go is it to post one anyway ?
why not just try what we're suggesting and see where it goes ?

Zyp,
And you know what, the really hard one he posted no one got that was really obscure. It was a bit to obscure but I really enjoyed trying to work it out :)
It's always going to be a challenge finding a good balance, I'd say the better option is less obscure films but harder to identify screengrabs (i.e. you don't have to have actors in shot), then its really about observational skills rather than who has seen the most movies, which I think is the essence of the game is it not? :)
I'll get on to posting an obscure shot of a famous film asap... ;)
Hopefully the film was famous/popular enough, it's one of my faves at any rate, and hopefully the shot is obscure enough :D
Sorry about bad quality, it's a youtube screeny
