With the release of MGS4 arriving faster than I had realised, I began to become tempted by a PS3.

So I thought I would check out the market and find what was the best featured PS3 option. I remembered there being 2 different version of PS3, a 40GB and a 60GB, but when I looked around all I could see was 40GB. I thought there must be a shortage of the 60GB with it being so popular, having all the extra features (more USB, flash card reader, etc). But no, they have actually discontinued it.

So what now, I basically have to buy a crippled 40GB version or wait until they may possibly release the new 80GB version for PAL territories.

This seems like a really idiotic move from Sony, they obviously assume the majority of people are too ignorant to realise the difference. A bad assumption given the rising tech knowledge of the new generations.

Yet again Sony is screwing over Europe even though we are now supposedly their biggest market.

I believe the 40Gb is also not back compatible with PS2 games.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

This I think is correct, the one we have at work doesnt play _any_ PS2 games that we have tried.

Sweenster

Wow, could they make a less attractive?

Make it bright pink with the words "Idiots buy me" printed on it

soopahfly

They even admitted that the cost was no different with the backwards compatibility included or not.
Its just down to parents and immigrants now to buy them, where "Sony" is god and "Playstation" is the word for god on the lips and hearts of all children.

Never saw the point in backwards compatibility, i wouldnt buy a PS3 ever with the intention to play PS2 games, id buy it to play the latest and greatest.

But then youd be stuffed as those games are only available on 360 :P

But seriously, theres no point buying a PS3 for just one game. My mate was gonna sell his Wii, with games, and buy a PS3 just for MGS4 until I took round Smash Bros Brawl for him to play, and he quickly changed his mind.

If you have a large collection of old games its sometimes nice to go back and play them again.

Problem being, my old consoles are flagging, my ps1 is as good as dead, because of the lasers and moving components of the disc drives.

Unfortunately these generally have a finite life, lots of ps2s had laser problems. Whilst currently you can get them fixed, how long before the shops offering that just stop doing it.

So eventually when the consoles die, it would be nice to use a newer console to play it, with new connections for newers screens.

Bacon

I just think the whole play ps2 games on a ps3 is a gimmick. How many people can honestly say after getting a PS3 that they frequently will continue to play PS2 games for the lifespan of the console.

Dont have any Playstation, but I regularly play my Gamecube games on my Wii. A good game is always a good game.

Oh another PPP*

We dont have dual shock, so all the games with that feature are currently lacking in Europe.

Oh and they are trying to flog off their old six-axis controllers, that arent selling elsewhere, as bundles in Europe with a game.

For more than you can actually buy them seperately in some cases.

*see thread title.

Bacon

Buy one or dont buy one, Sony isnt forcing you either way.

You either want a PS3 or you dont want a PS3, if you want a 60GB do as everyone else and buy one from Ebay.
