or alternatively, I need a new mouse

My Saitek GM3200 has finally bitten the bullet, this has made me cry like a little girl as I loved the thing.  I'm willing to spend a maximum of £35.  Don't want to spend £70 on a mouse, the wife would KILL me.  Also I've got that much from my Birthday money.

I'm looking at a few options at the moment, just wondered if anyone has any experience of them?

1 :: Another GM3200 --  This mouse has been a stunning piece of kit, it's 3 years old now, and until today when the scroll wheel gave up the ghost it's been flawless.

2 :: Cyborg R.A.T.3 (Was Saitek Cyborg RAT3 before Madcatz bought Saitek). -- Very similar specs to the GM3200, but a more gamer orientated design than the GM3200.  Not used one, and I can't find anywhere that has them for me to fit to my hand. 

3 :: Microsoft SideWinder 2000 -- I've had one of these in my hand, it wasn't bad, but it seems a little expensive for what it is.

Any other suggestions?  Must be wired, and if it's available at Argos I'll love you more as I have £25 in vouchers I can use instead and buy beer with the change!

I had a 518 for my laptop gaming, and i killed it in 6 months.  The G500 is better made?

Thats a fair point. The cheap Logitech B110 I'm using at work has a bit more weight to it and it is better to use

I used to use one of the bigger beefer microsoft mice (can't remember which) and that served me very well for 4? years before eventually the wheel stopped working.

i actually use the g500 and its a good mouse,i am mainly a gamer so its gets some hammering and is still going strong after a yr,you can add weights to it, it comes with a selection in a tin,just add or take away till you get the right feel,i find that without the weights that its enought for me tho as its quite a heavy mouse as it is,but its down to personal preferance,but overall its a dam good mouse 

I use a wireless MS Mouse for everything including gaming, seems to work like a treat, i say its all a myth tbh about them being bad for gaming.

I'm still using an MX-510! I don't know how you guys are destroying these mice, are you angry gamers?

I think in terms of ergonomics and movement feel, the MX-510/518 are pretty much perfect, knighty has the G500 which I've used and it's nice and all with the weight business, but its a bit faffy and I can't stand having to swap wireless batteries.

So basically what I'm saying is I have no advice as you don't like these mice But in all seriousness, if you like the one you had and are so comfortable/used to it, then why get a different one?

Cheers, I'll take a look at those.  Might be worth a punt, I'm hard to satisfy with mice.  MS canned the trackball I loved using, and had them for YEARS!

I don't think they are actually bad for gaming, but the MS non-gaming range just doesn't feel right (to me) when I'm playing games with it.  The GM3200 is similar I'm guessing to the G500, weights in it, a little bulky looking, but it's a joy to use.  Also I want the DPI switch on the fly for when I'm flipping between games, browsing and working.

Just want to try something new, and they aren't easy to find now outside ebay.

g500 is wired not wireless  but i agree with you on the mx510 best mouse ever made dunno why they discontinued it,even tho i have 1 still i use it as  a spare as 800 dpi is not enough anymore for my gaming needs

the batteries were great when new and lasted a week.... but i've had it since they were brand new (must be a good 10+ years?) so they're a bit tired now... with heavy use they only last a day.... if i walk past some in a shop i'll buy them... but i cba looking for them especially

I dunno how people are killing mice!

I have a logitech mx1000, had it for years, use it every day, the rubberised coating, silver colour and logo are all rubbing off its used that much, its still going fine, has only just recently developed a fault and i can get around that with a recharge so hardly an issue.

If they are less than a year old and they arent having them replaced under warranty I can only imagine its because of misuse, if these people are anything like my brother they are probably getting launched across rooms.

got another £20 in Argos vouchers, so I ended up with the RAT3.  Just playing with it now.  A little lighter than the previous mouse, but it's feels "right" somehow. 

I've got a Tomohawk which I have found is pretty awesome for the money. Quite chunky, but I prefer that tbh - feels better in my big man-hands!
