Eagle

Seeking your advice once more...

My current spec is:

? Abit NF7-S v2.0
? Athlon XP3000+
? 1Gb PC3200 DDR RAM
? Enermax 550W PSU
? ATI 9800 Pro (256Mb)

Ive just bought the following:

? 2x sticks of Corsair 1GB DDR XMS3200C2PT
? NVidia 6800GS Goes Like Hell dition 512Mb card (AGP)

My existing BIOS settings were (quoting WalrusBonzo - the previous advisor!):

QuoteThe motherboard and RAM support a 200MHz FSB(DDR400) but officially the 3000+ runs on a 166MHz FSB(DDR333).

On Athlon systems you MUST run the FSB and RAM at the same speed or youll get severe performance loss.

So in order to get the max out of your system go into Softmenu III setup.

Set it in manual mode.

Set FSB(External clock) to 200MHz
AGP to 66MHz
CPU Multiplier to 11
FSB/RAM ratio to 3/3
CPU Interface Enabled

Set CPU Voltage to 1.65v
RAM voltage to 2.6v
VDD/Chipset voltage to 1.6v
AGP Voltage to 1.5v

Then in Chipset settings set RAM setup to Expert mode. And set the timings to 8,3,3,2.5, these are safe timings.

Set System and Video BIOS caching OFF
Disable Spread Spectrum for AGP and FSB
Disable Thermal Throttling
Set Aperture size to 256mb

PCI Enhance Performance on, CPU Disconnect Halt whatever off. AGP to 8x, Fast Writes on.

Oh and before doing any of that flash to the latest BIOS. Go on Abits website and get FLASHMENU 1.30, itll flash the BIOS in Windows

Have to say, the above settings were flawless.

My questions now are - what should my new settings be?  Do I have to reset the BIOS?  If so, how?

Should I just install, power-up and hope for the best?

Note: Im not looking to overclock the new memory - I just need fast (but safe) speeds!

Any help appreciated.

:) :) :)

brummie

just adjust the RAM setting to that of the new memory when it comes.

maybe conider changing the AGP apature too

Eagle

Thanks.

Change nothing else? And at what point would I make the change - before I fit the new RAM or after?

Can I go higher?  Not sure with this board.

Change the ram settings in the bios when you have installed it.

Changing the AGP apature isnt that important. See how you get on and maybe change it later if you like.

Eagle

[checks] 8x is the highest it will go.

Cheers

Apature, not the speed 8x 4x etc

Eagle

Cheers again.

I see. :)

I take it those voltages will be safe?  Slotta cash to splode if wrong! :D

brummie

looks perfectly good to me. Very similar to mine ecept im running a mobile processor @ 1.45v

kranked

Platinum ram hey...
run that ram at about 7-3-3-2/2.5

might need about 2.8vdimm (ram voltage) however.

aperture really only needs to be 128mb.

Good choice in card, theyve replaced the 6800GT cards, and yours is pre-overclocked.
7600/GT might have been a better buy tho :/

Eagle

Might have been - but the CPU is the bottleneck (so Im led to believe) so no point wasting dosh. :)

Whyzat? :?

And why CAS 2.5 when its CAS2?  Me confuzzled now.

brummie

think they meant 2 or 2.5

just set it to whatever its rated

And apature only needs to be low in theory as you already have 512mb for textures etc
