Wondering what equipment I need to be able to transmit my sky+ signal downstairs to my pc upstairs.

Running Vista Im thinking while on my PC a small window running the received sky+ video would be cool.

Obviously at the bare minimum I know I need a tv card for the PC. But what is the cheapest possible solution to transmit and receive the video?

Hope this makes sense. Cheers.

Thanks deaths head.

I have been searching and come across there being a problem if running a wireless network already, We have a sky wireless router setup. Will this cause problems or prevent such a set up?

Edited: That slingbox option is not what I am seeking. I just seek a pure video transmitter / receiver setup. The Slingbox uses the network and uploads the signal. Funky but not what I wish to do.

QuotePlease note that this unit uses both the 433MHz and 2.4GHz open frequencies and it is possible for interference with other devices using those frequencies to occur - for example wireless networks. Please also be aware that video and audio sent via these units will almost certainly be transmitted beyond your own property so it may be possible for users of similar equipment to view the signal you are watching if they are close by.

It seems and warns about your network being interfered with. Something I do not want. In the end this is a "nice to have" where as the network is a "must have".

Any one with experience of a setup like this? Is there any intereference to be had?

I like the sender/receiver you posted. Probs maybe look at an internal capture though.

Normal wireless senders run at the same frequency as Wireless networks so you will almost always get interference.  Thats why Slingbox can be good because it can plug into your broadband router.  That is assuming the router is near the Sky box.
The slingbox option can do what youre asking for as it will use your existing wireless network to yhour pc and you can control the Sky box from your pc.
If thats not fulfilling your options then Im not sure what you are looking for.

The best way would be to use a cable, as chances of interferance are very much less than with a wireless solution. The problem then is what type of cable? Somthing like scart/s-video would be good, but might not work if the cable has to be too long. The other option is a coaxial cable (standard tv-antenna stuff). This also has the advantage of using a tv tuner on the pc to get normal tv channels (and possibly freeview), though the picture quality will likely not be as good (but probably still acceptable).

I dont understand, you want to run a wireless transmit of your tv signal, but not one thats going to interfere with your wifi network?

youve just ruled the best method of doing this out in the slingbox. its network enabled, it sends the signal as packets across the wifi if you configure it so, so youre not going to get interference and its also a bloody good product. I wouldnt be without mine.

Get rid of your WiFi and put in HomePLUG AV. Ethernet over power. I had a consistant 48-54Mb WiFi connection to my PC before I put 3 of these in (PC, Router and down by the TV) and the difference in quality was amazing. WiFi is crap.

Once youve got that then theres no reason not to use the Slingbox. Youd basically be moving the vid capture card into the Slingbox rather than have one in your PC.

So the Slingbox doesnt require your upload speed to be super fast? It can just send packets over wi-fi?

As for the HomePLUG AV option? What is this?

O and re prices resonable?

Cheers guys.

100 quid buys you the box. plug that into your wireless router. install the client onto your pc and connect to the slinbox. its that simple.

ive got about a 1.5Mb upload speed on bethere and my brother watched the leeds match on sling as i watched it on tv, said it was very watchable.

Ill let you watch mine some time tonight if you email me and remind me on matt
and at home its all about your wifi speed. i think mine is the bebox at 54mb and its perfect on that. bit ropey when caning redtube but the least said about that the better.

Thats why I swapped out the wifi for the homeplug...let you run the tv in a window and do downloads etc all without droppping out at all.

if you got a network pc bside your sky box you can just stream it using vlc, and you just need 1 tv/input card.
