Situation:

Crazy prices being paid for TV/Phone/Broadband etc from VirginMedia (£130+ per month) so I'm going to cut down on the size of my package (currently on 'supersize' me everything), fnarr, fnarr.

What I want to do is sack the XXL package and Go 'L', fire the SkyMovies add-on and trim the old broadband bush from 50Mb/s down to 25Mb/s - which should save me about £30-40 odd. Ish.

Then I'll get either NetFlix or LoveFilm.

Thing is, I have two TVs - the usual upstairs and downstairs affair - but how will I get them to accept the stream?  Both have HDMI but no ethernet cable sockets.  I can't be arsed routing 16 miles of cable from the router to both TVs so...

... is there a Wi-Fi streaming receiving pick-up ariel antenna mux modulatory wonder box type thing that I can use to grab the WiFi from the router and feed it in to the telly?

look on amazon for love film - I got a 6 month trial for £18 - unlimted rentals & streaming.
I stream through a PS3 - Netflix has a tie up with apple TV. Roku can prob do both

Leon

Not sure if the newer WD TV boxes do lovefilm/netflix?

WD TV Live does netflix, costs about £70. Will give you iPlayer / Netflix / Spotify and access to all networked files or files on a hard drive. Its a great all in one solution that requires no faffing.

That looks like just the ticket!

I take it it'll do LoveFilm, too as that's the one I'm going for?

I also assume these things need a hard drive?  Seems unnecessary but I suppose it has to buffer the data before it passes it to the TV.

addictweb

No harddrive required. You only need one if you want to store things locally to the WDTV.

I'm not actually sure if it will do LoveFilm so best check.

There's also a WDTV android remote which is pretty good.

Ah, right.

No - no need for storage I don't think.  What do I look for? 'streaming media..... box?'

:D

PS3 or 360... whichever you can get cheaper? 360 does LoveFilm and I'm guessing the PS3 does.

Just signed up to LoveFilm's free trial.  Had a good look around and it doesn't seem up to much.  Where are the decent, recently released titles?   Even Avatar's only available on DVD/BlueRay.

New this week: 'Cool Runnings'...  :o  Seriously?

Leon

Its a shame becuase Amazon own LoveFilm yet in the States they give their Prime members a much more superior streaming service as part of $79 a yearly sub (they just signed a deal with Epix to get even more vids) - Now if they would only give the UK prime members the same service for the £50 we have to pay.

Rather than getting a console why not get something like an acer revo? It's what I use in the bedroom and hass wireless, if you want wired you could use a home plug?

Eagle

'kin-ow-much?   :o  ;D

I'm trying to save money!"

As it happens, I'm looking for a replacement DVD player (not a PooRay one) which will play DVD-/+ discs so I'll look for something like the above but cheaper.

Go Netflix, at least they have tv shows and films released in 2012.

Plus side use the vps bargain I posted ages ago and you have yourself a ready to rock usa based proxy and can access their USA catalogue for free. Well $15 a year for the vps... And your usual Netflix sub.
