my brother wants to set his TV to clone whats on his tft...  but at the mo windows is running it as a second desktop... how do i set it to clone the tft screen ?

I can do it with the ATI software, but its a pig of a program and a resource hog to boot

Can you not use somthing like Ultramon to copy the source to another locale?
