Its easy, its easy!!

Just fire up #ubuntu on freenode, only 853 people on that channel to help you out. ;)

I passed my test after 2 lessons :p ;)

I know what youre saying but given that Linux has thousands of people working on it (Opensource), surely it should be miles ahead of Windows (in terms of useability) ?

Anyway...
Whats the benifits of a DVD distro over a CD ?

X is now running :)
It looks the bloody same as Fedora Core ! LOL

people who work on open source dont get paid so they tend to do what they can when they can.

dvd proably has more apps

its gonna look similar as your using the same Desktop

Yup, distros dont differ that much for me to have big sweeping emotions about it. Ubuntus good as when you ask for advice, at least everybodys on the same page. Biggest difference from Fedora is proper package management out of the box. I like Fedora, used it for a couple years, but found it mind blowing that the "market leader" didnt have a decent standardized way of installing stuff. Ubuntu comes with a couple guis that hook up to net repositories for updates and installation.

I think Fedora has that now through the use of "yum".

Given that these two are the same desktop, the tools for doing configuration are very different !

I will give you that so far *touch wood* Ubuntu has not hung / crashed on me :)

Customised desktop enviroments.

ubuntu probably has the newest version too.

I broke it :D

lol.

Trying to install Samba configuration tools and it all went a bit Pete Tong :s

So in the standard *toys out of pram* way, I am going to try Fedora again while the Ubuntu Desktop distro is downloading.

...although I might just go and watch Stargate/Atlantis and Eureka...

Quote from: NimrodOh for the love of god, Ubuntu Server does not install a XServer automatically :o

I have to DIY myself, post install :o

Well thats a refreshing change in fact. I HATE distros whos server option installs X.

If you want a desktop you install the desktop version. If you want a server then you really dont want to have the overhead/insecurity of Xwindows.
