Looks like it will be complete and utter sh*te but Im still drawn towards watching it due to the sheer number of TV adverts, bill boards etc.. promoting it over the past few weeks. Some one has obviously spent a lot of money on the series & really really doesnt want it to flop.

Ugly Betty is magnificent! One of my favorite shows in the last few years. :D

Youve got to understand that its a big budget version of the Latin American "Telenovelas". This means that its cheezy as hell with simple themes, hilariously bad villians, and campy music. They nailed this one, doing it in English, but not "North Americanizing" the overall tone. Part of the reason that they didnt compromize and screw it up was that Selma Hayek was the executive producer and put her foot down.

Its deffo :ptu:

They tried this concept at first with "Desperate Housewives" which I watched a few episodes of, and they just dropped the ball. It had the potential for delicious satire, but doesnt quite make the grade.

BTW, here is the original South American Ugly Betty:

and the American one:

Dont try to get too deep when watching it. Just have friends over and enjoy the soapiness of it all.

its good imo.

if you want good soap, watch hollyoaks. its sh*t but tbh it is great hangover tv because everyone is pretty :D

Dave

yeah - actually I did like it - quite funny in places too + I didnt know the girl from extras would be in it

Wait till you see the episode with Selma Hayek as a guest star. Theres a scene in the elevator where her magnificent boobs fight with her blouse...guess who wins

Theres also an Indian version which was hugely popular called Jessi Jais Koi Nahi.
