Xp has descided that my USB card reader should be allowed to work.
Been through everything i can think of, like drivers etc but now drawn a blank.
It works fine in *nix, any ideas?

Try a different port. I find XP does the same thing with a certain usb mousie. Ubuntu doesnt care a whit, but MS is picky on the same box.

its the multiplug to the motherboard and the reader takes up the two i have spare

snellgrove

move another device into that port, see if it works there.

could be a dead port :o

if it works, plug the card reader into the port that now is free

Max is right, shift things about...  it makes XP go through the whole "oooh I founds new hardware!!11" malarky and about half an hour later after it goes through all the crap and popups, telling you it could work faster youll have your E F G H I J K drives in My Computer again.

damn I love XP ;) its sooo good.

Does other usb stuff work on it?

You got all your mobo drivers?
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Serious

I had a possibly related problem in that XP decided that even though it had the driver for a card and produced the list of contents but wouldnt load them or delete, still dont know why it happened or why it cleared up several weeks later.

Try plugging it in then deleting the driver before removing and plugging it back in, it works for some items.
