Posted in here as  its more of a way to get your Kool and the Gang LPs on to your iPod than anything else.

I doubt the included cartridge is worth anything, but with a Grado Black or basic Shure, it should be nice for transferring that motivational Donna Summer album to your mp3 device you use at the gym. :P

Damn, my Roksan/SME/Koetsu/DNM combo is worthless now

Of course for that amount of dough you could get as decent used TT, a Shure MX97xe, and a little DJ preamp--and it would sound better...but most folks ears arent gonna miss a sybilant or two. :P

Would not mind a USB-kit to convert old turn table, just the signal to USB could it be that hard to make ?

What goes around, comes around ;)

Id much rather buy a suitable cable to hook it up a proper TT to the line in, Id imagine as you say max the cartridge/stylus on that is poor and it probably has poor control of platter velocity more than anything else.

redneck

prolly not that well isolated against vibration either.

so if you get it, make sure no one walks in the house while your using it :D

Surely with a proper TT youd require a pre-amp too... another expense :(

Its alright for those who just want to transfer their crazy ol 33s and 45s to cd :)

Im likely going to get a little Creative Zen--its got 128kps encoding on the fly. As my cassette deck is in hibernation, Ill just pull a record out cable from the back of the amp with a discrete mini plug poking out from between the components. Just plug into the Zen, and cue your wax. :P Should be good enough for dog walking.

Not necessarily, Project make some nice little Ã,£100-Ã,£200 budget turntables with built in pre-amp. The quality will be far better than this!

Some models even have automatic arm :o

A DJ preamp is only around $40 over here, and laugh as some may be want to do about such a cheap little thing, theyre just fine. The weak end in the chain is usually the cartridge, then deck itself, with motor noise and/or wow/flutter caused by too light of a platter on the top of annoyances. A preamps quality starts to matter when you get on the high end of the other stuff first, and the DJ ones are still better than what you find built into much mid to high end componentry from the 70s-80s.

The Project with proper line out is a nice clean option, Id say its perfect for somebody that gets the bug after starting out cheaper: for about a third of that, you can equip that decent vintage TT that somebody in the family always has with aShure/Grado/Stanton/Orotofon (the order of cheap carts I like) and either use a preamp or old receiver. It does seem that DJ preamps are more spendy in the UK for some dumb reason.

I just posted the original as Id never seen a usb out before. Surely its a fun toy/tool for the 14 y/o comp whiz that was born ten years after LPs dropped out of common production--and doesnt know better. :P

Why do the words Vinyl and USB just not seem made for each other.
