I had my main screen at 1680x1050 and tv at 1360x768, now when i duplicate the displays it makes the viewing area on my monitor just sit in the centre of the screen instead of stretching it over the entire screen and the resolutions on the tv is square and not landscape.

I can only guess this is happening because of a recent windows update as it worked flawlessly until a week or 2 ago.
