PC is plugged into a switch via a cat5 cable, says 'network cable disconnected.'

I try the cable with my laptop and it works fine, I get a DHCP address and all that jazz.

OK, so the onboard NIC is dead on the PC... I fit a PCI NIC to the PC, get 2 green lights on it and check and test - all is working fine.

2 hours later, 'network cable disconnected.'

WTF.

I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

sure the same is alright ?  tried wiggling it ?

could be a bit iffy and when you were moving it over to the laptop you wiggled it a bit and it started working ?

either that or check under your bed for a naughty midget :o

Also tried a different switch port?

Sounds like cable or switch tbh

My money is on cable, maybe the laptop NIC is more forgiving of a dodgy cable?

This, it's almost certainly this.

more seriously though, I'm with the dodgy cable idea, have you tried another cable?

Pete

I tried a different patch lead. I'm going back down with a switch tomorrow to have another look.

If it is a midget give it a good thrashing with that cable...

Most likely is a dodgy cable, then a port issue on the hub

Is it a managed switch?

Do you have port security on?

Are you firing up a VM and then suddenly it dies?

You know what I'm getting at right? There isn't a chance your switch is seeing two macs for a single port and screaming "HOLY BALLS!!!" Then shutting down sure to overzealous port security config?
