Ive just added a projector to my home entertainment setup (cheers nimrod!) and now ive got a problem.
I want to be able to switch between my TV and the projector using a range of sources (Xbox, NTL, DVD, video, PC).
Do AV recievers or 5.1 amps have video inputs and outputs?
Idealy im looking with something that can switch between with 5 video/audio inputs and 2 video outputs.
Im guessing this unit incorporated the 5.1 amp? I dont know much about home cinema, what do i need.
There would be no point putting a video signal through a 5.1 amp or receiver. I have seen an audio source switch that handled 5.1 but it wasnt cheap.
I use several sources into the TV through a 4x gang scart socket thing like a power one but for video. These can be bought from some Ã,£1 shops and although the signal will be corrupted if switch on more than one at a time it doesnt seem to do harm. It should have a normal cable connection for your compy seperately
You want an AV reciever m8.
I am using a Yamaha DSP-AX620, its pretty old now but does everything I need :)
My yammy had the following inputs:
360 (composite) + Optical
Media box (composite) + Digital Coax
Freeview (composite) + L/R Stereo
Dvd Player (composite) + Optical
Stereo L/R Audio only
and then the outputs were:
Composite to Telly
Composite to Projector
As long as you dont want HDMI/DVI or HD upscaling, you should be able to pick up a brand new receiver for less than Ã,£200 thatll give you what you need :)
I would sell mine but I cannot afford a new one atm :(
Something like this might do:

Your best bet is to work out all the inputs you require and then start looking :)
Cool, that sounds like what I need, just dont want to be manaully plugging in cables each time.
Something like this:
Sony @ Richer Sounds (http://www.richersounds.co.uk/showproduct.php?cda=showproduct&pid=SONY-STRDE400)
Says it has 2 component and 3 composite inputs, no mention of outputs tho :?
EDIT: LOL, you edited your post with the same one.
Like this?

Only has one set of outputs but then again you would be using a single set of 5.1 speakers anyway.
Looks like it will be better value to get an AV reciever, will give me what I need plus a decent surround sound.
Time to get saving/bargain hunting!
Cheers.
