I need help... Im trying to decide wether to go with Intel or Amd on my next rig, these are the cpus im stuck between:
Intel Duo Core 2 E6700 or AMD 64x2 fx62
Which is the better cpu to get, main use will be gaming and rendering 3d animations. No budget really and i will be overclocking the cpu.. oh while i remember is there socket adapters for Prometeia units for those cpus?
Core 2 Duo no question.
Cheers
Tongy
Core 2 has it in all the speed tests so far. Reputedly good overclockers too.
Or wait for the Core Quattro (sounds like a razor).
The more cores you have the more you need multithreaded programs to be able to use it to the full. Software seems to be still trying to catch up to dual core, especially in games, although I have no idea why, they should have been ready.
it that much harder to code parellel threaded apps.
once theyre done properly though, windows can usually schedule all running tasks over all the cpus
I think im going to go for the Intel Duo Core 2 6700. What motherboard should I go for looking between the nForce chipset or a Intel 975 chipset
pretty sure there wasnt an nvidia board out yet for core duo,
see if i can find a review site or two later on.
btw Kurt, any news on your for sale thread?
Does the likes of the Gigabyte GA-8N not ?

Oops forgot all about that thread, i shall take a look later.
I thought I saw some n590 sli chipset boards for duo chips somewhere
looks like i was wrong,
some of the current nvidia P4 chipsets support the core duo with a bios flash at worst...
list of asus boards for instance - clicky (http://uk.asus.com/products1.aspx?l1=3&l2=0&l3=0&modelmenu=0&share=txt/core2#)
not seen any reviews apart for the i975 chipset - like this one on bit-tech (http://www.bit-tech.net/hardware/2006/09/01/first_look___abit_aw9d_max/1.html)
Any clues as to the release date of that AWD max mobo ? looks like its the what im after.
:D Amazing CPU overclocked to 3Gig sits @ 25C theres room for more overclocking its not even breaking sweat......
My Asus board has the 0701 bios chipset so it worked no problems
