DEViANCE

the last few days my freesat box has had a lot of interference.

nothing has been changed and before now it has been perfect.

The wierd thing is that the signal strength is at 85% and signal quality 100% but randomly drop to 0% and then back up to 85 and 100.

what could cause that?

Maybe pigeons landing on the receiver?

Either that or your LNB or box is failing? You can pick up a new LNB for less than a tenner, but first maybe double check the connections at both ends? Could be a damp issue? Get the WD40 out :)

I assume you don't have another box or PC to hook up to it?

Eggtastico

failing LNB or dodgy connections.. maybe water has penetrated the F Connectors & damaged to core cable.
Also possible the dish has moved off alignment & a breeze is causing it shake that little bit to lose sigal.
Anyting changed with line of site? maybe some trees have had their leaves? or maybe the cap on the LNB is dirty.

DEViANCE

All conections seem solid and the one that goes into the LNB was bone dry, not for long now I have cut it's sleeve off :p

I readjusted the dish and cant get it anybetter than where it was before so that seems ok. (strength 85% quality100%)

Took the lnb off cleaned the cap and refitted and it was fine for a few mins but then went back to the same as before.

So i'm guessing faulty LNB?

Eggtastico

you could try rotating the LNB skew - if its not bang on it can cause the H &V to interfere

lots of lnb info here http://www.satcure.co.uk/tech/lnb.htm

where the connector goes into the lnb there are 3 or 4 numbers and the connector can move to these numbers is that how you chnage the skew?

eh?
skew is basically turn the LNB in the bracket - read here http://www.bigdishsat.com/technical.php?sort=fit_twin

No I think they are just different LNBs, assuming you are talking about where the cable plugs in? Try changing those as well, just to see if it is the LNB that you are using is not working? If you have 3 it means you can connect 3 devices, you have to run them from the dish you can't split it at the other end like normal TV

DEViANCE

only just got around to sorting this.

The old cable that has been in for years (10+ probably) went all the way around 3 sides of the house and then down into the living room under the floorboards and up to my satbox.

So got a new quad LNB from ebay and some good quality DT100 screened coax and rewired it just coming down from the dish and then straight under the living room floor and then to the box. I've probably quatered the cable length and used better cable.

I'd have made a loop in the cable before bringing it into the house.
Water will run down the outside of it and into that vent.

nah it'll be fine it only has that last 6" drop for water to gather and that would probably drip off the clip before getting into the vent.
