Looks interesting but with the sale of PCs will this have any chance of success?

I would expect this to compete with normal PC sales, it's essentially a hobbyists computer, I'd imagine this isn't going to be the quickest device, but could be good for slim devices, interactive advertising, lite web browsing, mame, firewalls/routers etc..

But it's not going to replace the family PC, it's marketed to get people interested in tech not to be a fully featured computer..

For £22 I might get one to have a play with :)

For £22 I'd be tempted just to have a Linux machine, never fancied using it on my main computer, but it'd be nice to have a play on a separate machine. I wonder if it takes off whether it'll be modded in every which way so people have them in every room doing mini-tasks, connected to tiny digital photo frames for monitors, weather forecast, lighting control, iplayer in your bathroom etc...

I can imagine there must already be high demand considering they are having to refuse pre-orders, the applications for something like this are quite wide ranging even though it may seem hobbyist at first. It's good to see David Braben doing alright following on from the success of Elite :)

They have released a Debian Distro for it:

"Reference root filesystem from Gray and Dom, containing LXDE, Midori, development tools and example source code for multimedia functions."

Available for download from their site...

They will be releasing a more full featured OS for it though..

So we can get an OS but not the actual H/W yet?

Allows people to begin development of apps on it, some people are looking for the OS to run on an emulated arm processor for development work.

QuoteThe Raspberry Pi Foundation will be making a big (and very positive) announcement that just might interest you at 0600h GMT on Wednesday 29 February 2012. Come to www.raspberrypi.org to find out what's going on.

Set your alarms!
