Title: Windows Update Problem
Post by: Beaker on June 25, 2007, 23:07:31 PM
rather irritatingly my XP64 install has started defaulting to the V4 windows update, that isnt updated anymore.  Even if i point the update at the correct URL it sends it back to V4 (kind of annoying), it was working OK at the beginning of last week when I did the install and patched it up.

Anyone has this issue, and if so know how to fix it?  Manual patching isnt something I relish, and i know about using Firefox instead, but I prefer to actually use IE for updating my rig (silly personal preference I know).

I had this a while ago, you may notice your running services link in the admin bit under control panel missing along with some others?
Basically my x64 just went messy, re-install a pain, not happened since, never knew what it was that caused it.

if anyone else gets this, the fix appears to be :

Go into Add/Remove Programs.
Select Add/Remove Windows Components.
Untick the IE box so you uninstall IE.
Reboot the machine.
back into Add/Remove windows components
Tick the IE Box with the XP disk in the drive so IE gets reinstalled.
Reboot.

Updates are now working fine :)
