Hi all, been away today building/installing my new dual core system, i seem to have a problem with windows update:

It prompts me to upgrade the latest upgrade software, it downloads 100% and says ok, then directs to an error page with the following code-

0x8007041D

i check the error code and it refers to "nod32" needing an update, but i do not use nob, i use avg and i have tried disabling avg just in case but still get the same error, thus now i cannot update my xp os.

Please help

have a look in C:\WINDOWS\SoftwareDistribution\Download\

Thats where updates get downloaded to, each goes in its own folder, hex name\update\update.exe

Try running them from there. I do that at work cos its the quickest was to install 30odd updates and WU normally breaks.

Nothing in that folder so dont know whats going on there

windows standalone update thingie

will update you without the need for the windows update web site, then once youre updated windows update should work normally again
