Hi all, bought xp 64 pro for my new pc as I love it on this pc.
It came though with a certificates to upgrade to vista business for free.

Now I am reading that graphics drivers are not there yet
Direct x 10 will enhance your graphics a fair bit even if its not direct x 10 featured, very optimised
64 bit is not really supported well
Good for gaming

Are those statements true or...?

Also would the business version be good for home use, could you get elements of other vista version running on other versions etc

I dont know much about it at all and wondering to upgrade or not. I have till the 31st of march to do so

Get the disk if there is no requirement to activate Vista before the end of March, you can always use it later.  Personally i think Vista sucks sweaty donkey balls.  

The business edition does not have any media players or HD functionality, you need Vista Home Premium or Ultimate for that. I would avoid it.

But say if I was to ask for the home equivalent instead, apparently they can is it then still worth/not worth it?

Home isnt good enough, it has to be Home Premium really if you want what is more akin to XP. Home standard is like Win 95 or something in comparison. If you can get Home Premium go for it.

I like the way he makes out its a Good Thing that the install DVD has the same features on it all the way through.  You can look at that 2 ways, Either MS are being really nice and selling you the basic OS for next to nothing, or the more realistic view that M$ are asking you to bend over and take it like a man every time you want to upgrade your rig.  

Ill install it eventually, ill get the most basic version I can play Games on, and ill keep on using a *NIX for everything but playing games.  

Stick with my students copy of XP Pro 64bit

In all honesty media center isnt needed, I use XP pro without media center now and its no biggie, windows movie maker is an annoying piece of tosh that annoys me because its just there... hanging around in my start menu for no reason, ive never bleedin used it except when im bored and screwing around randomly on my pc.

Id definately just grab it. You still get media player 11, and the other goodies, its not an N version so no biggie there.

Yeah, you can more then likley get media things downloaded from ms or the free and maybe better options out there.

As to "its free" well yeah and no, its an upgrade and so the soon as I get vista that is assigned to me and the xp pro that I got gets deactivated so it wont be authorized again.

Someone with less scruples than me might suggest activating by phone and writing down the codes so at a later point...

In that case you lose nothing by going for the business edition of vista
