Im after a Wireless AP such as this:

Any recommendations or is this the best value Im looking at?

Dont buy cheap - you know youll regret it later when you have to reset it every five mins. If your on a budget see if you can pick up a Westell Versalink on the bay cheap - best wireless APs Ive ever used. Never have to reset mine and its doing the ADSL routing too.

Actually the Belkin gets good reviews, I might go for it if nothing else comes recommended.

Ive got a great one by Asus WL-330g, its a access-point and Wireless adapter, its worked fantastic for me, its also good for xboxs but I only used it for my laptop.
Ive got everything including the leather case, I should have the box but not sure where that is. Will sell it for £20, Look here:

Yes I used it as an AP, and yes it has encryption, dont know about the IP address, heres the Asus link:

Yes an old puter (PII is fine) one nic (or two if u wnat both with wire and wireless and a regular wifi and it will  us that as ascess point (BLUE in ipcop). I use ipcop but not with wifi it is great and u can use snort intrution detection with it.

Sorry I didnt check his description - hes done a sh*t job! It has a 4 port switch built in to connect to your ethernet network (I dont use the usb option) - and the DHCP and routing services are all optional so works perfectly as a standard AP to create a wireless extension of your network (which is what mines doing in addition to the ADSL routing)

Although you could use the routing and sell your current router saving you more £££s!  

I actually have to disagree with cheap APs, weve got one at work that I grabbed for about £15.  I havent touched since I installed it, allways works, just a weak signal compared to other brands.  Which is what we want as its only for us in a shared building.  Also very basic features.

I have to strongly recommend a D-Link access point.  I installed 2 of these in a large warehouse not so long ago.  To my shock just the one covered the entire building but I ended up putting them in the upstairs office anyway.

They are easy to set up, well priced, have very good featured.  I went off site with my laptop still there on the wifi.  I know it never dropped becuase for those few hours I was out the VPN to my work office was still on when I got back.  Never been so impressed with an AP before.

I think this was the model I used on site.

I cant see those D-links cheap anywhere. Im probably going to end up going for the Belkin I think.

Its a good price, lifetime warranty, and I can be certain it will do what I want. Cheers for your offer though Filbert.

I have a pair of cheap wireless dongles that work better with my wi-fi router than the ones made by the manufacturer. Cheap doesnt always mean problems.

I find it simpler to use an all in one unit, only a single socket used and a little more efficient. At the time it didnt cost me any more either.

Excellent Nath, it will match up with my router. Do you know if I can assign it my own IP to fit my ethernet routers subnet range?
