Title: Wireless N router - advice wanted
Post by: XEntity on May 04, 2008, 21:01:33 PM
Following my WRT54G bricking, and purchasing a Soho 6 firewall, as detailed in my other thread.....

Im now looking for a wireless N access point / router (none of the routing will be used, the Soho can deal with all that).

Is anyone on 802.11N? What APs are you using, anyone know of any that are good? Looking for a max spend of ~£50.

Also got to purchase a Mini PCI-E card for my Dell Vostro Laptop... But think I know which I am getting for that

Cheers Guys

Jake

802.11n is still in draft so youre taking a punt buying any of the gear now - like when bluetooth first came out

Trapeze havent even released thier single PoE n radio yet.

My N knowledge is relativly minimal, thought it had got through draft.. obviously not  :whoops:

Have also realised that my budget is not enough to take full advantage and need to get a 5Ghz AP.

How long until N gets its standard and comes out of draft? and will it be a case of firmware upgrade once it comes out?

Also what does everyone think about the Apple Airport Extreme? (5Ghz N, Gigabit LAN and USB drive/printer support is very appealing)

Cheers

Jake

The Belkin N1 Vision looks interesting.

Wireless N (draft as mentioned above), 4 x gigabit and one touch guest pass system.

netgear have said that any N-spec gear you buy now will confirm, or they will replace it IIRC.

Double check their site to check.

Ye I saw the Belkin, looks good, although the apple has the advantage of the USB port for connecting up a load of HDs   -)

Might be interesting about the Netgears, although i have gone off their newer equiptment.
