I have a 2500+ barton powered compy with a pair of 512mb sticks of DDR. Anyone think its worth adding a 1GB stick to give 2GB? I tend not to use it for heavy games.
No.
No point, get some sweet speakers or a kushty mouse & kbrd or amp3 payer or a webcam & ho domain or a spare hdd or something.

Like SDP says, absolutely no point what so ever.
If it does what you need why bother?
why upgrade if it does what you want?
only 2 real reasons for upgrading are:
it no longer does what you want it to
Its so old its constantly on the verge of dying.
anything else is at a whim, and unless you have plenty of money available an upgrade on a whim isnt going to give you the benefit your cash merits.

Money is burning a hole in my pocket?
Really I was thinking about photoprocessing where memory can get short and cause problems with it using the swapfile. Rarely hsppens but when it does it slows things down drastically.
Im going to consider doing a full upgrade next year anyway, after M$ latest offering has had time to settle down a bit so it can wait until then.
aye mate, just save the dosh and buy something better down the line when you really notice it struggling when windows requires half a gig of memory just for min spec! :D
I have a 2600+ Athlon (Barton Core)
I found going from 512MB to 1GB was good in XP..
the next thing I found that really boosted speed was:
sticking a 10,000RPM 74GB raptor in there :P
do it, if you have SATA abilities - theyre not as loud as everyone says they are, no worse than any Maxtor.
