The supplier were using to put together a portable recording kit for work cant source the headphones I requested (Grado SR-80s) so I need some recommendations on alternatives. Budget between Ã,£80-150.

Mostly be used for recording at work.. and me stealing em a few nights for listening to music at home :)

I was tempted to go with the Senn HD25s, but decided to go with a different supplier so I was open to the Grado option again. A mate has the Grado SR80s which have been around for a while and Ive always been impressed by them.

I went to order them from AVLand only to receive an email saying theyve discontinued them :( They offered the SR125s for a knocked down price on top so I went for those in the end.

Brought them home for the first time - plugged them into my Pioneer VSX-D2011 amp and going through my collection.... I like to think my speaker setup is pretty top notch in terms of sound quality (B&W DM6xx S3 series) but these headphones have actually managed to blow me away  :o   Jeff Buckley - Hallelujah just sounds breathtaking. The level of detail in the sound and clarity of the bass is staggering.

Open back headphones rule!

If sound leakage doesnt matter, any of the Sennheiser "Open Aire" phones just rock my world. They have them at many price points, and even the cheaper ones are decent.

The HD555 and 595 are spectacular and within your budget.

The Grado 60s and 80s are fantastic, but not worth the insane markup you guys suffer in the UK.

If you want some cheapie closed cans, Ive found my bargain bin Senn HD201s to be perfectly fine for listening to the puter, and even some non-critical vinyl listening.
A little cold, but they dont try to be nasty thumpy DJ phones. Stupid cheap, like 10 pounds at Amazon. Very comfy.

Luckily the company is picking up the bill ;) This setup is primarily going to be used for recording podcasts for some of our corp clients, but its just so over the top on performance/quality... but they wanted to get something decent just in case - C2D Macbook Pro, Focusrite Saffire LE firewire audio interface, Grado SR125s, AKG 2000 mics, etc. Least I get to play with it all

The Grados are no where near as comfortable as the Senns for sure...

Conceded, Senns walk over Grados in comfort. But the Grados get props for geek style.

lol yea

Now I cant stop listening to Aphex Twin - Come to Daddy.... I gotta get up at 6, these cans are tooooo good :(

cant complain about mine, when you see screws holding your thing together rather then just plastic moulding(which always breaks) you know you have something that is not going to be just crap.
