QuoteAmong these are a few things that have been backported from Vista including the new Windows Product Activation model, Network Access Protection modules and policies.

There is also the new Kernel Mode Cryptographic Module so that the kernel now includes an entire module has access to multiple cryptographic algorithms and is available for use in kernel-mode drivers and services. It also has the " Black Hole Router" detection so that Windows XP SP3 can detect and protect against rogue routers that are discarding data.

Looks like XP is becoming a much better alternative to Vista, again. ยต

/me hugs Devils Own and still surviving happily on SP1

Im buying Vista when I upgrade though, it just isnt worth the hassle these days

Serious

Still using a genuine copy of XP, when that becomes unusable I will be moving to Linux.

Although knowing how believable Inquirer articles are, I have reservations as to this turning up.

urgh, cant you just SP2 it?  if not you might as well run W2K SP4, its slicker than XPSP1

I dont want the hideous bloated Fisher Price hand holding affair that is SP2.

If it aint broke...

(I only use SP1 because it supports USB 2.0 out of the box so to speak)

and hes considering Vista at some point!!!!     :P

Only because it some point it will make sense, given all the new technologies, software updates, etc. ;)

Im a man of practicality.

Even 98 supports USB2 providing you install drivers for it.

When do updates become an issue for you? If its an unpatched SP1 system, thats what I did my ethical hacking against... christ its as open as a sheeps arse in a welsh penal colony.

Sorry this has come up before, but dude... seriously... update that sh*t! :D lol.

Clock'd 0Ne

No one is going to hack me and Im not bothered if they do :D

Sam

I run vista and its good. As its legal (because I aint tight and opposed to spending two pence for an OS) I dont have to f**k about avoiding updates like the rest of you in fear of MS blocking my computer and repocessing my house.

Office 2003 SP3 was relased a couple of weeks ago.  That has been pretty good.

Oddly I noticed IE7 wasnt avaialable through windows update today, both on a server & and XP desktop not sure why.

Cypher

Oh thats why.... It no longer needs validation as is no longer being force upon us.
