Surely a good chunk of that is people saying they do for cheap licenses?

Sam

WTF.  Neither of my Grandparents have black and white TVs.  In fact they are both no more than 5 years old.

mr_roll

Probably quite a few people saying it for monitors as in CCTV and dont know you can get free license for CCTV.

Sweenster

It will be interesting to see what happens after the digital switch over.

How many BW owners will get a digibox for the BW set....

Some people are skinflints and know that a BW license is cheaper and say "Well I get the same stuff for cheaper" because it is technically watchable without the colour. I have known a person like that.

Well bully for your grandparents.

Mongoose

deppends what you want it for TBH, if youre only watching the news you dont lose a lot by having it in B&W.

I considered it at one point but the problem is actually obtaining a B&W TV.

It would be funny if 60-70 years from now todays generation were the only people stubbornly sticking with HDTVs, whilst everyone else is on Holographic 3DTV/Neural Interface TV/something we cant even imagine. :P

People tend to like the tech they grew up with, more so than recent advances?

60-70 years? itll be implants or something. Those of us still kicking will fear the implants and stick to watching things in boring "real-vision" on the plain old 50" OLED type tvs, whilst the youngsters that get the implants at birth will literally have maybe a few hours of school a day and then that it. I say a few hours of school as maybe if you could have programs broadcast directly into the brain, theres less room for distraction, so you could do a matrix and condense the learning into short periods.

Question is, at that stage where "entertainment" can be so immersive, would the kids be socialising, or will it be one of those dystopias where everyone is sat in a couch permanantly jacked in?

(I honestly dont think this is too far fetched, considering the progress made in the last 60-70 years, and how it advances exponentially)

Smugs

Black and White only, its the stuff of nightmares. :drama:

I think thats possible too, but not if people are using B&W vision ;)
