Got a free ipod and Im trying to dl the itunes crap - can someone tell me if that dl is really slow or is it just me?

Do you need itunes, can you just put normal mp3s on?

You can but you still need itunes on there or it wont sync with your ipod

If you have an ipod you need itunes. Although there might be alternate option by now I dont know of it. You can convert itunes to other formats for use elsewhere though.

Yes, set up where you get your photos from in the photos tab when the ipod is connected in itunes. Which Ipod is it?

You can use Winamp and various other media players and/or third party applications to get your music onto the Ipod but if memory serves they all seem to be lacking certain things that the Ipod supports. I just bit the bullet and switched to Itunes, its not perfect but its by no means bad and the Ipod connectivity is quite seamless and intuitive.
