Going to start offering some part time recording services for acoustic artists and karaoke singers and also some voice over/multimedia work etc.. Got a few orders already so not a bad start - but need to start the research into running my own business, legal, tax etc.. Want to make sure everythings done proper and all that.
cheers

I think your looking for this (http://www.businesslink.gov.uk/bdotg/action/home?r.s=l&r.lc=en&r.i=1081677261&r.t=CAMPAIGN), if its the one im thinking of, they offer free advice to new businesses and coach you through setup etc.
Are you looking to have anyone working with you?
If not, just go the sole trader route, its easier to manage and saves hassle when it comes to having an accountant looking after your books. While there are better ways to evade tax having a limited company like Rivkid Recording Ltd, since its not full time and if youre not working with other people this would be the simplest and least headache inducing route to take I think.
im not sure where you are from but, where i live theres several places that offer free funding/grants to new businesses, if you go to your local job center they will be able to give you some names. if there are any :) also can offer advice on things like business plans.
also the HM Revenue & Customs in liverpool do some like training days ? or something ive not been to them but i got told about them. and they can explain everything you need to know about tax etc.
again maybe give them a ring and speak to them.
1 thing i do know is from when you start trading you have 3months to let them know ^
Or click my link, it covers it all :w00t:
Start sole trader.
Pay your VAT on time
Pay your tax on time
Pay you accountant on time.
Everyone else can wait, youll be fine.
