Delta finally got out in NZ so we've gone into a hard lockdown, have been for nearly 2 weeks, and even though they're relaxing things a little next week it's still pretty strict.

It's pretty much a race between getting everyone vaccinated and a massive outbreak as NZ has the lowest vaccination rate in the OECD. About 20% so far.

I only became eligible for the vaccine last week and have a booking for Tuesday. Bit of a relief.

Mentally I feel a bit down as I kind of feel that yes we'll learn to live with it but that at some point it's going to mutate into something much much worse and that'll be it.

This sie seems to have fairly accurate figurs https://ncov2019.live/
One can see deaths per million and sick who have recovered per million.

When normality hits and I am over NZ to see family you, me and Paul (XSPC) should defiantly look to do some form of meet up.

Crazy with how much of a lockdown we are in NSW Australia and you have 30-50k cases a day and the death and hospital rates you have way more than us and things are pretty much normal conditions now regardless of this.

How are you all doing ?

How are things in Sweden? Or for your particular circumstances at least?

Since I started WFH before any of this even kicked off, I don't watch TV and the media 24x7 commentary, it's just the same old same old. Someone tells me there's new rules, or we're in lockdown again, or out of lockdown again, I don't really care. Nothing much as changed as having one autistic son who is a struggle to take anywhere (always do grocery shopping online, etc) and with a 3 month old too means we don't really get out much and if we do we try and avoid plebs anyway and go to places at quiet times. It's probably been the best time for us to have a baby in some ways.

I do miss going to a good afternoon pub crawl with the lads though as I've not really seen any of my mates in a year, but they are all still being cautious despite mostly having being jabbed twice.

I am especially glad I never have to commute back to an office still though, our company still encourages people to WFH and want to keep a remote policy for the future for all staff and not just those hired 100% remote like me.

I got two shoots, gov. starting to get things sorted, law changes etc. (for example allowing look down). I keep distance shop at times with few people in the store do meetings over the web, so far it does seem to work, forme it has not been much changes though.

I had symptoms of some infection from half way through December all the way to May, although symptoms were different and seemingly covid test negative.

Already had both doses of the vaccine, now waiting for booster. This could end up a constant six month repetition.

A friend's young son in South Africa has had covid, which turned into long covid. Their life has been hell this year. Seems to be a lot of luck involved and if you have had other infections.

Ive not been on here for a while although i do read the forum from time to time.  Im also in touch with Nige.

Since it started the first lockdown i was made redundant a week before furlough, so got zero furlough pay and once my cash had run out i had to find work.

Ive been doing manual work for various companies, very heavy work, delivering into peoples homes, to room of choice mostly.

We average about 750 - 1000 drops a month per 2 man crew, for the first 6 months we didnt have to wear masks, for the rest of the time we did, about 1 in 50 people will wear a mask in their homes.

I have met people from every red zone during each lockdown and from all over the world who have moved to the UK to get away from Covid.

In total i have now delivered to around 15,000 homes, i am Immuno Compromised and i also live in a pub, i have met 2 people in that whole time that were actually sick, and one of my cousins who went abroad apparently had it until the Coroners report which confirmed he had a heart attack and they put him into an induced coma assuming it was Covid, he later passed away as they failed to treat his heart attack.

Lets just say i should be the ideal candidate to have caught it, people tell me i am lucky, but not lucky enough to win the lottery, what do i believe, who knows!

PS I and my colleagues were all sick with something in December 2019 to January 2020, it was like no virus i had had before, high temperature, fever, coldness and shakes, fatigue and serious muscle pain amoung other symptons, my city has a high population of Asians, over 22,000 about 1/5 of the population, so i assume we all had it already.

I am on facebook if anyone wants to chat or hookup, ask Nige.

Same, my mum was living with me temporarily at the time as she'd repatriated from NZ, she was working in the local hospital wards and I'm sure she brought it all home to us as our Christmas was a write off and I was still not back to 100% until months later; constant coughing, lack of taste, fatigue, pains, coldness, etc.

No I won't be pimping you out.

Haha you can be my middle man to anyone who wants to chat further, think of it like a management role, how cool is that :P

I've been sick several times this last year with "colds" that were worse than normal. Lost my sense of smell completely on one of those for a day. That was scary, didn't realise till I was doing the laundry and found I couldn't smell the detergent. It was the strangest sensation sticking my head in the tub and having a sniff and detecting absolutely nothing. Have had 3 covid swabs all negative though.

Interestingly in NZ were getting mini-epidemics of other viruses. A recent one was RSV, usually kids are continually exposed to all the different pathogens and build up immunity. Being cut off from the world for a year meant they all lost it.

As soon as we briefly opened up to Australia, all the stuff they have over there went rampant here as there was little immunity.

I'm assuming that's what's been happening with me and our toddler, so there'll be another wave once we open up again!
