Just wondered if there were any pipe smokers on the board. ive recently started and thought id ask here if anyone has any recomendations or what not

I have a load of flat caps. You might want to look into a harris tweed one.

I stuck with the cubans, Im still tempted to get one, but after the top gear episode where they smoked pipes a bunch of bandwagon jumpers suddenly got interested and killed the magic behind it anyway!

Im really enjoying the pipe smoking. Ive started smoking less cigarettes because of it. Its a hassle maintaining them though, currently at the stage where theyve gone to taste sour/rancid cause of tobacco buildup, need to buy some pipe sweetening stuff

I can recommend it tho. In my experience you have to set aside a certain amount of time to really enjoy a cigar, and to almost plan for when you want one.

If youre still tempted, why not buy a corn cob pipe, theyre like £5 and dont need "burning in". Theyre not something youd use as a main smoker, but theyre great for trying out different tobaccos as you get the full flavour of it without them tasting like crap cause its not burnt in

Ive known quite a few pipe smokers over the years and they all agree, pipes all taste rancid/sour after a while. People do get used to them though, or try a clay pipe if you can find some.

And yes, they are rare, but you should be able to find someone who sells them.

Cigars are personally preferable if you can afford them. And I have smoked a couple despite them giving me raging sinusitis.

Completely agree with you there, it does take some planning usually, especially in the winter months when its freezing outside

Not smoked a cuban since 2009 myself. (despite having 2 humidors almost full   )


Good tips though Edd, I might get a corn cob or something to give it a crack, a couple of mates I was in the pub with years ago tobacco flavours smelled incredible  

The one I tried was corncob, certainly the least faff out of them and like Edd said its certainly a good introduction to the pipe - I used to have a decent tobacconist near me that did all the flavoured/aromatic tobaccos, theres some really nice and some really   ones.

The last cigar I smoked was on New Years, sadly I was a bit to drunk to remember enjoying it all that well!
