Many of us here who grew up in the 80s will know that the kids shows and mainly cartoons were the best era for kids tv. Kids today have pure crap and have no idea what they have missed out on compared to the great times of the 80s and early 90s before it all went wrong.

Intro music - Second to none, rock music, very catchy and the shows were cool as well - pure and utter tripe for kids, my little cousins and friends kids who have seen such shows thanks to me putting them on disk or finding very old dvds think the shows are amazing

For all you that have not seen such shows, here is what you have missed out on in your life

Right, time to spam you all with links, I bet if you forgot about the show as soon as you see the intro on some of these you will remember them and even remember the words.

Ones I can not find on youtube are - poddington peas, the moomins, there was another but I forget the name now where the kids when the slept went into a dream world and they had a dog and the king of the dreamland slept on a load of mattresses.

You may notice some of the really pure Uk shows - David Jason of Only fools and horses did a lot of voice over work.
Even if the show was crap the intro was great, so many quality viewing shows though, kids have no idea today, every single theme catchy and you can remember it today

Shows of about now and 90s that were not bad:

Dragonballz (I have baby sat a lot for family so I end up seeing this stuff)
Justice league
That Samria Jack is it?
I do not get spongebob but hes funny

Of course the Simpsons started in the 80;s and rules and the movie is here soon, Southpark is just better every season and cartman is the best character of any show

Thanks to all uploaders of youtube as the source

Just to add - Compiled over quite a few weeks this not like spent 3 hours on it just now

Forget - bertha, batfink, spiderman, Inspector Gadget

Shakey

Rude dog and the Dweebs?

Mongoose

Quote from: neXusthere was another but I forget the name now where the kids when the slept went into a dream world and they had a dog and the king of the dreamland slept on a load of mattresses.

I think the title youre looking for there is

Potsworth and Company (Potsworth was the dog)

A quick google didnt immediately turn up any clips but heres a wiki page

http://www.classickidstv.co.uk/wiki/Potsworth_and_Co.

My default thought for "lets go!" is still "lets roll midnight patrol" from that show. Noone ever knows what Im talking about though.

Another classic example of why 80s kids TV is better than any other decade is the series "The Mysterious Cities of Gold"

What more could you want? its got vague history, the odd facinating fact, fight scenes, and a flying statue of a bird of prey made entirely of gold and powered by the sun! I managed to get my hands on copies of the whole series (yes, technically illegal in that I did not pay for them, but if the copyright holders would like to make themselves known and actually publish the english version on DVD Ill gladly buy them!) and its just as awesome today as it was 20 years ago.

That is the one, cities of gold was a cartoon but very intense story really, I do have that one in the list :)

Mongoose

so you do, my apologies, darned fine list you have there.

So many memories of great shows, but we should not discount the genius which was Phil Schofield in the Broom Cupboard. No fancy sets or cleverness, just him, a   camera, a control desk and one TV monitor.

Eggtastico

What about Sport Billy? Mazinger Z? The one thats based in Space where a number of ships combine & turn into a Robot?

I skipped read, but was ducktails, count duckula there? what about terrahawkes & Dungeons & Dragons? Willy fog?

Deaths Head

I have all of Starfleet on DVD.  I need to make up some decent covers for them :)

Pete

Awesome list but you forgot - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tjp7D0SW-9k

A lot of that reminds me of when we only had 2 or 3 tellys in the house and I used to have to watch Andy Peters n stuff in my parents room cos they were watching Riki Lake etc in the living room.

Trap Door - the reason I used to get up early at weekends :)
I know sh*ts bad right now with all that starving bullsh*t and the dust storms and we are running out of french fries and burrito coverings.

Cornholio

ooooooohhhh trapdoor, how i love it so. i used to love yelling along to the theme tune when i was little.

Crap, starfleet was the real true one and then that other cartoon space robot thing that I linked
But Oh f**k yeah, I forgot about terrahawkes I did have the video open to link I forget, will add that :) had the videos (long lost dam it) Thanks

Not used intro theme music, little more funky but for me actually a bit better may have been to modern

Jewels Holland was a fan then:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4anaYvaHFQI

Expensive on dvd though: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Terrahawks-Jeremy-Hitchen/dp/B00029RE1W/ref=sr_1_3/202-1510079-5943855?ie=UTF8&s=dvd&qid=1183143211&sr=1-3

Add them now though just to show I watch it - "Stroll On" and the best villain for me was the screaming ugly one with the big teeth

Dungeons & Dragons - flat but yeah forgot that and willy fog, Dam that is another one, but you see the point so many of them all quality and today its just crap

That is a whole different post, which presenter in the broom cupboard was the best, the come over blond hair one, Old Phil Or Andy, I think for me it would be andy peters :)

OMG your are a god among us!
I beg you, NEED!

Serious

My age most of it was initially watch with mother (boring crap unless you were three or gave them new voiceovers) and then Thunderbirds, stingray, Captain Scarlet, fireball XL5, Space 1999, Joe 90, etc.

Seem to remember Terrahawks with robot spheres that rolled around on the moon. Although designed by the same peeps AFAIK it was much later and I only caught two episodes by accident.

Then there was Scoobydoo of course. A thousand plus episodes of exactly the same plot - and somehow you never tired of it

I also got to watch the original startrek first time around.

*she-devil*

Just how bored were you Nexus? lol

Smugs

Knightmare, I loved that show scared me senseless though when the horns blew and you knew the goblins were close by lol.
