lol pedals.

my insane channel on my spider 3 30 does the trick.

Rivkid

dont lol @ pedals. Ive got a spider too as a backup amp and the extreme channel whilst very nice isnt a patch on a boss mt2 through my Marshall setup.
Career, Wife, Mortgage... my sig was better when it listed guitars and PC's and stuff!

redneck

well the mt-2 is good, i might invest in one when i have the funds. however the adaptablity of the spider 3s 3 od to mental distortion is good.

considering it has 3 volumes (drive, channel volume, and master) 2 of which colour the tone of the dist from mellow od to pretty insane stuff.

not forgetting the distortion boost with an inbuilt noise gate, which is great for boosted lows with capped highs for a real dirt setup.

also depends on your marshall, if its a dsl100 or above then yes you are right. if its an mg series i will laugh.

Rivkid

TSL 602 with an additional 4x12 straight underneath  :D Its a great piece of kit.

Ive gigged in a signed metal band for the last 6 years and its rare youll see a Line 6. You do see them dont get me wrong - mostly at smaller gigs or wth younger bands, but not much with the serious users on stage.  I know a lot of people use them for practise because its easy not to have to carry a pedal board round (hence why I own one) and for that or bedroom / studio stuff theyre great - but live a good valve amp with pedal will knock the socks off it.

yeah no sh*t, valve > solid state emu :/

i thought for metal you would be using laney/ diezel dl4?

Rivkid

yeah Ive used Laney pretty extesively in the past - and peavey as well actually both got some nice kit. Diezel Ive just never had the cash to explore.

A lot of people swear by their mesas but apart from how loud they go (which lets face it a decent PA system makes redundant) I dont see the attraction for the money. Nice if your rich I reckon.

Im just Marshall through and through as is our R guitarist. I just think theyve got the lot and I love the tone - even when you do f*ck about with pedals you can still spot a marshall tone behind it all. H&K seem pretty nice - Id like to try their Warp 7 metal range although I suspect its a one trick pony.

the mesa boogie triple rectifiers crunch channel is legendary. really blows marshalls out of the water.

Rivkid

Maybe I need to play with it more then. So far Ive been far from blown away. A Marshall 800 series is pretty tough to blow out of the water....
