  Guess they deserve it though, the Americans got sick of theirs and sacked the lot before replacing them.

I dont think striking should be legal for anybody that works in public services such as the above, transit driver, refuse collector, etc. You should be made aware of this job limitation during the hiring process.

The website could have been a little more mature in their criticism, but their anger is valid.

madmax

must be the umpteenth time weve suffered this though.

strikes didnt help rover back in the day did they

tbh.. youd have to define public services carefully though.

But I do agree in principle anyone who is providing an *essential* public service shouldnt be allowed to strike. Especially people like, police, firemen, ambulance drivers, air traffic controllers & tube drivers.

I wouldnt say air traffic controlers and tube drivers are essential services TBH, unless you include train drivers, bus drivers and airline pilots. People are unlikely to die if most of them went on strike.

Being in a public service gives you undue leverage when striking.

Skin cats for a living? Go on strike and people will simply buy skinned hamsters and ducks, you have no power.

Drive the municipalities refuse trucks? Youve got the POWAH!

Could easily send in the Army and sort out the problem, most of the time they dont do that much

Dave

problem is a lot of them are in iraq & afganistan not doing that much(aside from getting shot at & bombed occasionally). Of course the ones that arent there now are either training to go there soon or have just got back. Of course this didnt stop them covering the fire service strike even though some of them had to cut thier leave. Most ironic thing was that the firemen complaining about pay were covered by squaddies who get paid less than them & do a more dangerous job.
