QuoteThe link points to a YouTube page featuring some awesome CGI work from an Azerbaijani designer called PanTural.

If you watch the video, you can really start to see how 3D computer animation could shape the future of your first contact with new cars: CGI renderings rather than the real thing.

And when they look this good, does it matter if theyre not The Real Thing?

This kind of CGI will likely start appearing more and more, especially within the confines of your favourite car magazines, who wouldnt need to get their hands on a real vehicle to do a photoshoot.

Serious

Given a bit of time that will be done in real time.

I found it still didnt look quite right with the shinyness, but then found myself halfway through realising just how good the thing was on the whole, with the backgrounds etc as well. Really impressive.

From a realism point of view i know what you mean, however for cgi thats got to be some of the best i have seen in a while.

Yeah. When you stop and think about Pixar films and the likes, even recent ones seem to pale in comparison, and they had whole teams working on it rather than just 1 guy, so it really is quite something.

On a similar note I find the prospect of this really interesting:

Tempted to email them and enquire about it. If its not just limited to things being rotated and a fixed camera angle, it has a lot of potential as a means of cheap and rapid data capture for terrestrial surveys.
