I got mine on Thursday, decided what the hell and got someone from work to bring me one back. Its nice, of course it is, but in 2 weeks itll probably be up for sale because the size will have narked me off.

Going to Chicago myself end of Nov so will probably bring some back to flog

The main reasons I will not be getting an iphone, even though I want one is;

1; locked to O2 only!! (yes I have read the other posts obout unlocked ones in france etc)

2; "iPhone 8GB will be available to buy at £269 only on O2. There is a minimum 18 months contract on our dedicated tariffs for iPhone."

3; Monthly Subscription £35 £45 £55
Inclusive Minutes 200 600 1200
Inclusive SMS 200 500 500
Unlimited Data* Yes Yes Yes
7500 Wi-Fi Hotspots** Yes Yes Yes
Visual Voicemail Yes Yes Yes
Roaming Special roaming
rates with ITS Special roaming
rates with ITS Special roaming

So in other words Compleate Fing rip off.

Old phone... consider all of my phones were brand new and most top of the market at the time.

Nokia 8210
Sony Ericsson T610
Sony Ericsson K700i
Sony Ericsson W550i
Nokia N80
O2 XDA Orbit.

Of course... old phones and payg... despite the fact Ive paid monthly for them. All of those are unlocked. Contract phones are unlocked especially with O2. You may get O2 Firmware, but its unlocked... I can put whatever sim I want into it providing it matches the tech (3G obviously doesnt work in a 2G phone).

My T-mobile SIM doesnt work in one, nor did the Vodaphone, Three or Orange SIMs.  What did work was the data-enabled O2 SIM.  Flashing the phone is somewhat dangerous when you end up with Apples Update bricking the phone.  Buy one on ebay when they come out by all means, but £260 for the phone, followed with an 18 month contract seems a bit too much money to risk by unlocking the thing.

I wont be getting one partly because I only use my phone to call and text. Its a Sony walkman phone but I never use it. I seldom use the camera on it too so I cant justify spending the money.

Although I wouldnt mind one but itll probably be a while before you get them free on contracts right?

If Apple get theri way then itll be never.

Ive got one here at work charging up (Gotta call a customer later).  They arent bad, but the price doesnt justify the functions.  Personally i would just buy a TyTn2 and have a better balance of features and cost.

Its a waste of time. Ive been on o2 and its various guises for well over a decade (BT Mobile, Cellnet, etc) and those tarrifs are awful.

Right now Im paying £40 a month and this includes:

1000 minutes any network
1000 texts
basic data package (dont use it much)
Insurance for loss/damage
Plus some International call package they chucked in last time I complained.

Why would I sacrifice that for 200 minutes and texts ?

Not to mention its a sh*t phone. If you want to enjoy the real features go and buy a 16Gb iPod Touch.

Not having 3G is one thing, whichd make it much more useful for truely mobile data access (WiFi is a bonus, but Im not going to go sit in McDs everytime I want to check mail), but what wouldve really made it the killer ap it so yearns to be is a GPS chip.

I actively want to shove one of these things up steve jobs arse, sideways, with no lube.  He might learn his lesson at that point.

im supporting iPhone users, its annoying.  CPW stores keep calling up with things "wrong" with the phone, and they havent RTFM!

also, ive had one sat on my desk most of the day.  Google maps is fun, but thats all.  It quickly gets annoying if you have larger fingers.

I actually quite like them tbh.  Bigger memory capcity and they need the touch sensors on the back of the phone rather than on the screen itself but other than that theyre pretty good.

Regardless of anything else theyve forced the whole phone market to step it up a gear.  Even if that means charging less for their contracts to tempt people back.

Cant really see the negative effect for anyone in it coming out.  (Apart from the people doing tech support of course)
