From 12th March, eBay is changing its final value fees, under the guise of making it simpler, and abolishing its listing fees.

In reality, they appear to be looking for RBS chairman levels of greed. Before, if you sold an item for say £200, youd pay a final value fee of £11.55, based on 8.75% of 29.99 and 5.25% of the rest.
now you pay a flat 10% of the final value, which means you have to shell out £20, an increase of 73%.

There is a cap on the FVF of £40 now, so if you sell something for £400, before youd pay £22, now £40, an increase of 81%.

And this is all before Paypal fees...

If there was a decent alternative then I think its fair to say everyone would vote with their feet.

I tend to only sell on forums now days and use BACS for payments.

The downside is that you state a price and dont get to make more than you expected because of some nut job last minute bidders.

I use ebay as little as possible these days, especially since they set the reserve price limit at a minimum of £50, its an exercise in futility. They also seem to be very focused on protecting their buyers often at the expense of their sellers, i.e if a buyer complains they automatically side with the buyer even if they are at fault.

Worst thing I find with amazon is when selling books, and some annoying sods are selling the book for 1p plus the mandatory P&P, you just cant make money doing that, and I am likely to lose money on the P&P for some of these books.

I was disgusted to see £10/£11 fees for my hifi gear that was sold on ebay, Almost £50 just in eBay fees over this past month!

I certainly will not be using them to sell if these disgusting fees come into place.

Im already getting charged 10% final value fee from what I can see.

Ive not really sold anything on ebay for a while, sounds expensive.

Ive tried selling things on the likes of bigger things on local sites like Gumtree.

Ive either sold off or thrown away most of my crap

Been selling and buying a fair bit recently, the items i buy i get for really cheap so i wont complain, and the items i have been selling ive made a profit on all of it

Ive just stumbled upon another unwholesome aspect of this; whilst in the UK we pay final value fees:

10.0% of the amount of the winning bid, up to a maximum Final Value Fee of £40.00,

in the US (on eBay.com), they pay

9.0% of sale price (maximum charge $50.00)

  Maybe we should bomb America (can I say that?)  
How can they justify this?

I got a real shock at how much the fees had gone up when I used ebay earlier this year to sell a pair of graphics cards, not sold anything on there for a few years and I doubt I will be in any rush to any time soon looking at this price hike!

I wonder why theyre pumping up the prices so far tho ?

Id be surprised if it averaged out at anything more than a few pence/auction

once they start taking the piss like this, all it does is make people look for somewhere else to sell there stuff.... theyve already got a monopoly.... if they keep the prices lower theyll keep the monopoly
