chill out a bit it's only a joke

and tbh the county would be a much better place if everyone's details were kept on one centralised system = he who has nothing to hide hides nothing

it's not like you'd give 'people' access to it... but if the dvla computers could scan through all records, checking your medical info to see if there's a reason you shouldn't be driving, and then flag that up for attention then there's nothing wrong with that

same as the dole etc.. could scan through and see how much you have in the bank, where you live, how many cars you have etc...

there's a million and one other things I can think of, but cba to type them out with a bandage on my finger :-(

That would be fine if it were automated and with no human interaction/access to the other systems...

Big public databases are regularly compromised by the users...

That "letter" is obviously made up, because it says they lived in the country since 1776. Which is the date of US decl. indp. Therefore it's likely this was originally written by a US person and then things altered to be English.

Serious

People in the UK are used to different government departments asking for the same information over and over again. In my case it is often the same department. They know where I live, my phone number, DoB and how much I have, they still ask me to fill in forms giving exactly the same information every year.

As Sam says it's a fake. Even if it was real there should be very little that is surprising about the message.
