Some of you might know, Ive just got my own place, so I need to deck it out with some stuffs.

Where on earth do you go to buy stuff?

Id consider cheap... expensive... good reputation retailers. Any and all links are welcome :)

So come on folks, post up where you go for your furniture, and stuffs :D

Need some more choice rather than just IKEA, Argos, and other Catalogue sites.

Personal recommendations would be to buy furniture itself from IKEA and accessorise with other stuff from Habitat, The Pier, Laura Ashley (they sell the nicest bedding!!) etc.  You could also try Next homeware stuff, is actually very nice - although the furniture is quite expensive compared to the likes of IKEA.  TBH, if budget is of no real issue, would buy from John Lewis.

There is also a website called www.dwell.co.uk they sell a few odd bits which are quite good.  

I know some very cool furniture places in Bristol, although not sure where you live so not sure if that would be of any use.  By cool furniture, I mean coffee tables, mirrors made out of slabs of dockwood etc.

EDIT: having read one of your other posts you are in Bristol, so would recommend a trip down to Park Street, you have Habitat and the Pier a couple of doors down from each other.  Futon shop and also Bristol Guild.  If you also drive up to IKEA (M32/Fishponds roundabout) there is a big Next there with the top floor dedicated to homewares.

EDIT EDIT: Also, if you drive down to Gloucester Road - there are several second hand looking shops selling furniture, one of them sells new stuff there too.  We bought a dining table and four chairs for £100, made out of oak ... it looks so much more expensive!!

Ill be living in bradley stoke :) (north bristol) but any place is good in bristol really. Get my dad with a van over and go shopping like :D

Even if they dont have sites, let us know names and places and Ill check em out if I can.

Its all handmade stuff ... really great for chunky mirrors and tables etc.  I wanted a couple of coffee tables ... bought some cubed blocks of solid natural dockwood, they look fab!

If your in Bradley Stoke, then Why not just go to that big shopping centre down the road?

Also, have a nose at McArthur Glen. Theres one just off the motorway at Bridgend & Swindon... I know next has a 2nd line place there... + theres a few other shops with oddities.

All Ive seen in bradley stoke is "the bradley stoke" pub, a tescos (no idea where it is though... remember driving past it), an aldis and a little chippy, estate agents, and thats it. :)

Got a rough idea where the big shopping centre is? :)

I furnish(ed) student houses pretty much using Argos.  John Lewis for myself.

The stuff from MFI, Argos, etc is probably the right sort of level for a first house tbh.  Youre going to have enough to pay for :)  Once you have the basics from the big companies you can pick up the rest along the way from nicer places.

Weirdly Tescos do some very good stuff in the largest superstores.  Thinking beds, settees, etc.  These bulk stores/catalgues have a weird reputation but the actual stuff is good if you dont buy the cheapest stuff.  A laundry basket or coffee table from argos is cheaper and just as good as anywhere else.  Habitat anad John Lewis etc do the bits you put around the basics very well.

Have a look at Ebay as well.. Plenty of places sell 2nd line/overstock & Catalog Returns to get you started.

What you could do is get a plate of glass, suited to your needs and get an engine block from a scrappy, degrease the engine block and clean it up and then put the pane of glass on the top of the engine block and hey presto... you have a table.

Want smart, modern stuff. Oldy Worldy... nah ah...but im not against a nice piece of wood acting as a coffee table :)

Ive bought tons of stuff recently for my new flat. Got coffee table, and TV Stand off ebay. TV stand was £150, but will look sexy with my new TV as well. Also got bed and matching cupboads off ebay...........was going to get bed etc from argos, but searched the net, and a company on ebay was the cheapest. Im getting a matress from a local place, as I could try them out there and get a quality one. Will be getting a new cooker and fridge from argos when im actually moved in, as theyll take the old ones away.
