Title: Got an iPhone...
Post by: chrisdicko on November 06, 2009, 21:25:39 PM
Got a second hand 3G today for £100 so thought Id give it a blast.....

It seems sh*t boring.

So what can I do to it? It seems to have nothing on it. On the front page and only page, it has Messages, Calendar, Image, Camera, Missed Call, EMS, Calculator, Phonebook, Alarm, Settings.
Then there are 10 dots, then under these there are 4 buttons to press: Phone, SMS, Service, iPod.

Ive downloaded itunes 9, plugged in the phone.....but itunes doesnt pick anything up, which I dont know why!

Can I do things to it which wont cock it all up, and if I dont really take to the phone I can stick it on ebay and no-one will know Ive been tinkering with it?

Thanks

lots of vids on youtube, just be careful updating the phone software too soon on iTunes as they struggled to jailbreak the last release. Think blackra1n is out now.

try http://www.quickpwn.com for iPhone stuff

The ten dots would normally mean you have ten pages of apps to scroll through?  Setup your email etc and get some free apps for now ;)

Will check that site out thanks.

The phone doesnt seem to want to actually connect to the computer really. I plug the phone in, and on the phone it says USB Config and gives the option of: Mass Storage, Webcam, COM port, PictBridge.
Ive tried clicking all of them, then going in to itunes, but cannot get the phone to how there.........

Might be worth formatting the phone and starting again. not sure why it wont show in itunes.

Sorry to be a penis, but how do you format it?

When you connect the USB lead, what option of the phone do you normally select? Mass Storage?

Just removed everything apple from my PC, and reinstalled itunes again, and closed itunes down.

I connected the phone, selected USB Mass storage, then opened itunes.......should this then show the phone on the left hand side? As it doesnt :(

your stepping into these new types of phones and you just got to get used to them, thats all. That does work. Unless you been sold a duff phone itunes will see it and it should default fine etc.
Just take it step by step and try again m8. If done right you should have the apple logo stay on for a bit then the connector image.

Rumour of the next one is it is actually a smaller screen and smaller form factor with an IRD chip and cross network capabilities. Looks to be a more mass market step rather then keeping to what it has been. With the competing market and the other challenges going for bigger screens apple look to go the opposite and be a bit more like what the palm pre did. Palm have not got the push to make the palm pre a publicly known success etc but the form factor has gone down well with folk.

Interesting times ahead for phones.
