Ive not really read anything about the iphone to be honest, but know the 3gs is better than the 3g and has more features etc.

Just a lad at work says he can get me a 3G for £175 sim free....which I think hes talking a load of crock, but anyway.

Can you get the 3G and make it like a 3GS? or isnt there that much difference really in them anyway?

Cheers

So a bit slower, not as good camera, not compass (Oh no!!), voice control, and video....

Not too much difference then really!!

Cheers for the link to. :)

The 3GS is MASSIVELY faster in day to day use. No compass means no augmented reality apps or sat nav apps. The camera is not only higher resolution but also has auto focus (and touch focus) which means things like barcode scanning apps actually work. The video is really good (640x480 at 30fps example: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ckPBMqv7nRQ).

On the other hand, voice control is useless.

I wasnt sure on the upgrade, but very glad I did.
It's all fun and games until a 200' robot dinosaur shows up and trashes Neo-Tokyo... Again.

Oh right, so probably worth waiting out to get the 3GS then perhaps!

should be available on orange within the next 2 weeks...
or wait for probably a new iphone next june

Cypher

There is a big difference in stability and performance.

The compass is useless as is augmented reality. You can search in google for a list of nearby pubs rather than put your phone in the air and circle around like an idiot.

Augmented reality apps are the biggest growing app type out there for any platform. A number of them and ones coming are far from useless and you will see many many many more next year.

Press app button, hover over person, knows you logged them before gives you a pop up of their name and info so you remember.
In a meeting or lecture, hover over the lecturer and get details of that person but also links to the lecture files etc.
One app in development you just scan text (android and iphone versions) by holding the camera to a poster and it will pick out all the words and save it as a text file. So you see a poster for a parter it will store it. Has a date? It will put it in your google calendar.
One app on the iphone you hold it up to any building or object etc and it will tell  you all the height etc and distance from it. Same with mountain ranges etc.
Another app reads your airport tickets etc. Put your phone onto the ticket and via the net/3g will fetch the current flight info for your flight or any other based on what the ticket is.

Some early ones were just pure proof of concept but these kind of things will be far from useless.

On a phone note:
Wonder how the motarola droid will fair. Here it has a stink battery life though.

They might be f**king amazing in 2 years.

Right now they are a total waste of time.

Ive got a 3Gs, whilst my mate has the 3G. Having seen you can get the 3G for free on a cheap contract Id go for that rather than pay alot for the 3Gs handset.

Ive done a few speed test with the two phones and the newer one is defo faster (quite a bit actually) but probs not worth the cash if you can get one for free now.

The lower memory on the 3G is noticable too.

iPhone 4G is just round the corner anyway ;)
