Because youre nervous/apprehensive/excited/insert other emotion here. Anything that gives you the "butterflies" in your stomach when youre anticipating something important will likely create a case of the nervous farts unless youve got a cast iron constitution.

Yeah man nicotines a badass laxative! When I used to smoke I quite often had to go for a sh*t after a smoke!!
